Inquiry/Science - Slime

The Preps had an amazing time in Science this week. We finished off our Unit of Inquiry, 'How our senses help us to explore the world around us', with the science of edible slime.

We considered how heat can change the properties of things such as popcorn or ice and we considered what would happen to marshmallows if they were heated up. We discussed different ways we could heat up our marshmallows such as using fire, the stove top or the microwave.

The Preps noticed how the marshmallows went from being squishy to soft and melted when they were put in the microwave for one minute. We then added cornflour and icing sugar to make our slime.

The Preps got to explore the edible slime through their senses, noticing that it looked pink, it smelt sweet, it felt sticky and gooey, it made popping noises when they played with it and the Preps even got to have a little taste, noticing how yummy the slime was!

Grandparent’s Day

On Wednesday 15 June, we had a very special morning in Prep. We celebrated Grandparent’s Day and why our Grandparents are so special to us. Our new Unit of Inquiry is 'Where we are in Place and Time' so we will be learning about families, family traditions and how things have changed over time. Our Grandparents thought lots of things have changed since they were in primary school.

Our Grandparents arrived at 9.15am and stayed until 10.30am in the Prep Learning Centre. We waited in the corridor while they all arrived so had to keep super quiet.

We sang some songs with actions and all had a turn to speak into the microphone to say “I love my Grandparents because…” The last song we sang was ‘Cover me in Sunshine’ and we learnt some sign language to show our Grandparents. They all took lots of photos.

Once our performance had finished we all shared morning tea with our Grandparents outside or in our classrooms. Some of us showed them our special learning.

We had a fantastic morning and our teachers are super proud of us all!
