Assistant Principals' Report

Ms Andrée Poulter - Director of Curriculum

To the new students and families who have joined our community this year, I would like to introduce myself. I have been involved in education for more than thirty years and gained a lot of satisfaction from the work I have done. I began my career in a remote Queensland mining town and since then have taught in a number of schools in Melbourne as well as working in other parts of the Department of Education.

Currently, my role at Melton Secondary College relates to the Teaching and Learning Program. I have responsibilities for Curriculum (what is taught in the classroom), Pedagogy (how the curriculum is taught) and Assessment & Reporting (how we measure growth in learning/achievement and then inform parents). My responsibility in these areas stretches from Year 7 to Year 12. At the School Council level, I chair the Policy Sub-committee.

Within this Newsletter and on Compass you will see information about Assessment Schedules and how you can regularly receive information about your child’s progress in their academic studies.

I warmly invite any parents/guardians/carers who have an interest in Curriculum, Pedagogy or Assessment and Reporting to nominate for School Council and/or the Policy Sub-committee. I also gain much from informal conversations, feedback and ideas from the carers of our students.

Please feel free to get in contact with me poulter.andree.a@edumail.vic.gov.au or telephone 9743 3322 if you have something you wish to contribute.

Mrs Jenny Buckle - Director of Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion

I want to warmly welcome you all to our 2019 school year.

This year, I look forward to leading the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program with our Leading Teacher for Positive Education, Kate Smith. We will continue to promote our STARR values and enable our students to set high expectations for their own learning and wellbeing.

I will also lead our whole school approach to Inclusion with a school wide emphasis on encouraging the involvement and support of students with diverse needs.

To support the wellbeing and learning of our students, I am leading our valued Wellbeing team and the development of an extensive Mentoring program for our students. Parents are welcomed to seek mentoring support for their child.

Our parent community is valued and I look forward to continually working with you to support initiatives and links between our school and the general Melton Community. I will be leading the Community Subcommittee of School Council and we welcome new members to our monthly meetings. Our Community Liaison Officer, Robert Aduer, is also supporting new initiatives for our community.

Mr Alan Devine - Assistant Principal Senior Sub School

I would like to welcome all students and parents to 2019 at Melton Secondary College. This year I am very excited to be working with the students and parents of Years 11 and 12. Together with the Sub School Leader, David Kershaw, the Senior Sub School team is aiming to ensure this is a highly successful year for all of our students.

An important area I will be leading this year, which compliments the Senior Sub School very well, is the Careers Program at Melton Secondary College.  This is an integral part of establishing bight futures for our senior students and ensures students throughout the school develop a clear idea on their future.

Finally, I am looking forward to continuing the work on our College STARR values which help develop a deep understanding on how the values will make our school community thrive.

Mrs Ruby Dhir - Assistant Principal Middle Sub School

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, Ruby Dhir, Assistant Principal responsible for Years 9 and 10. I believe education is a privilege for our young students at Melton Secondary College, an opportunity that not all 14-16 year olds have around the world. I am confident our students will use this opportunity in the best possible way to grow as a young adult, to be ready to make the right choices for themselves in the future. We endeavour to support our students to become lifelong learners in all aspects of education. After experiencing two to three years of secondary schooling with a focus on acquiring and building key skills and content knowledge, our Year 9 and 10 students will now focus on deepening and embedding those skills and content knowledge in all subject areas.

To ensure our students are progressing in the right direction, I am looking forward to working with all parents/guardians and students, in a partnership, to support our young adults.

I would also like to introduce the members of the middle sub school team who will be working very closely with your child:

Kate Kershaw- Sub School Leader

Bart Oswald- Student progress Leader

Vitolio Paulo- Assistant Sub School Leader

Matthew Ward- Team leader

Andrew Grichting- Team Leader

Darren Spiteri- Team Leader

Faye Morton- Sub School Assistant
