Winter has certainly arrived in force this week with chilling mornings extending into the day, along with our needed rain. The Winter Blessing Prayer gives us all hope to sustain each other as we work collectively to pray for our students, their wellbeing, endeavours, studies and cocurricular life as well as for our whole St Pius community.
Blessed are you, winter, dark season of waiting,
you affirm the dark seasons of our lives,
forecasting the weather of waiting in hope.
Blessed are you, winter, you teach us valuable lessons
about waiting in darkness
with hope and trust.
Blessed are you, winter, season of blood red sunsets
and star-filled, long, dark nights,
faithfully you pour out your beauty.
Blessed are you, winter, with your wild and varied moods,
so intent on being yourself,
you refuse to be a people-pleaser.
Blessed are you, winter, your inconsistent moods
often herald spring’s arrival
you call forth the good in us
as we rush to help one another.
(Verses from Joyce Rupp & Macrina Wiederkehr)
If it wasn’t cold enough to be in Sydney over the last weekend, our St Pius Rugby community ventured across the mountains to play Kinross Wolaroi in Orange. With a cool 6 degrees, our young men showed great commitment on the fields. The 16Cs were our Team of the Week, having a huge victory, but special mention also goes to our 1st & 2nd XV players who, despite being under-strengthed, played with all the commitment we expect of all our young men. Thank you to all coaches, along with the parents and the St Pius X Rugby Club who made the weekend an enjoyable experience.
Thank you for the families who have completed the EREA School Choice Parent Survey. The Survey link which was emailed to each family last Wednesday remains open until Thursday 28th June. Your feedback is important and greatly appreciated. It should only take 5-10 minutes to complete.
Rest in Peace. Over recent weeks we have mourned the passing of one of our first day students in 1937, Kevin Mutkins. We also remember the recent passing of Mary Cantrall, wife of John Cantrall, also a first day student of St Pius X College. Mary joins her husband, John, and his class mate, Kevin, receiving eternal rest in Heaven together. May they rest in peace.
May I pass on a particular thanks to the teaching staff of the College who have been working extra hours in the completion of the assessment process and report writing that provides such excellent feedback, with well-deserved affirmation and recommendations, for our students. The Years 5–10 Reports will be accessible on the Portal from late afternoon on Thursday 28th June.
Bookings for the Years 5-10 Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews on Monday 23rd July will open at 9am next Monday 25th June. All information and login details will be emailed to you and are explained further on the Student & Parent Matters page of this newsletter.
Congratulations to our Senior Drama Ensemble who warmed up a wet and cold Tuesday evening by performing extracts from Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist. It was a great opportunity to provide valuable performance time for our Drama students who entertained the hearty band of parents and staff who braved the conditions last night. Thank you to Ms Penny Lindley for leading this invigorating department within our College.
