September 15 - Feast of Our Lady of Dolours

The Feast Day of Our Lady of Dolours, which is often referred to as Our Lady of Sorrows, is 15th September.  Catholics pray to Our Lady of Dolours for special understanding in their times of deep trouble and sorrow.  As a mother herself who lost her only son she gives peace and consolation to those in pain and suffering and to those in grief. We pray to her for our families.

Memorare to Our Lady

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary,

that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,

implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, we turn to you, O Virgin of virgins, our Mother.

To you we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate, do not despise our petitions,

but in your mercy hear us and answer us.

Amen.

Parish Feast Day & Lunch - Sunday 16th September

This Sunday 16th September, the parish of Our Lady of Dolours Chatswood is celebrating their Feast Day with Mass at 10.30am followed by lunch in St Pius X College Gymnasium commencing at approximately 12.00 noon.  All are welcome and there is no cost for this lunch.  Please come and join us.

Drought Relief Appeal

Help needed to transport hampers:   We have received great support for our many hampers and we are looking to send these up to Coonabarabran in the week of 24th September. I am asking for anyone who may be able in any way to assist in transporting these hampers. Perhaps someone has a connection with a trucking or transport company or maybe someone is prepared to take them up somehow? If you can help please contact Mr Couani through Ann Brady on 9414 4312.

Finalise your tickets!  All tickets (sold or unsold) must be returned to the Silver Box outside the College's Finance Office by no later than Friday 21st September. The draw will take place on Tuesday 25th September and winners will be announced in Woodchatta on Wednesday 26th September.  Please be active in attending to this important contribution to help our country communities.

EREA Congress

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday all EREA schools, Ministries and communities gathered in Melbourne for a National Congress to discuss the progress of our work against the EREA Touchstones and to continue our shared vision into the future.

St Pius X College was represented by Mr Brian Populin (Board Chair), Mrs Donna Dempsey (Assistant Principal Mission and Identity), Ms Alexandra Foord (Staff member) and myself.  It was a full and far reaching Congress with every Australian EREA community represented as well as representation from many of our Edmund Rice Beyond Borders  International communities. Some of the guest speakers included Senator Patrick Dodson, Fr Frank Brennan (SJ), Kirsty Sword Gusmao (former First Lady of East Timor Leste), Emma Alberici (ABC journalist), Mr Ray Paxton and Dr Wayne Tinsey. Our facilitators were Fr Kevin Hennessy and Ms Leoni Degenhardt (former Principal of Loreto Normanhurst).

Senior Sport Colour Awards

Congratulations to our many recipients of Colour Awards for co-curricular contribution to school life throughout the last Summer and Winter seasons.

Our special guest was Old Boy and College Vice Captain from 2002, Mr David Prentice, who is a Sports Writer and Manager. Mr Prentice spoke passionately about how the College had fostered the development in his education and in his sporting career.  His career in football took him to the USA.

The names of the Colour Award recipients can be found below.

  • Second overall in the Boys’ Division 1 Carnival

Congratulations to Athletics Captain Daniel Hall and Coaches Mr Lacey and Ms Ho.  Well done to all.

Congratulations

We congratulate Professor Andrew McLachlan, father of  Nicholas and Timothy in Year 11, who has received the Order of Australia - Appointed as a Member in the General Division for significant service to pharmacy as a researcher, educator, and administrator, and to professional medical and scientific organisations.  Professor McLachlan is currently the Head of School and Dean of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney.

Tribute to Mr Tim Long

You may have noticed the article below in the North Shore Times which pays tribute to Mr Long's assistance given to Mr Greg Growden on the Kokoda Expedition in 2016.  Mr Growden dedicated his most recent publication 'Wallabies at War' to the assistance that Mr Long gave to him when Mr Growden had some difficulties on the Track.  We congratulate Mr Long on this acknowledgement and thank Mr Growden for the dedication.
