Our Lady Help of Christians May 24

Did you know Australia has two patron saints? We would certainly guess that Saint Mary of the Cross (MacKillop) would be one but maybe you might struggle to name Our Lady (Help of Christians) as the other. Below is is a prayer penned by

St. John Bosco to Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christians.

How sweet it is to come to your feet

imploring your perpetual help.

If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children,

how can you, the most loving of all mothers forget me?

Grant then to me, I implore you,

your perpetual help in all my necessities,

in every sorrow, and especially in all my temptations.

I ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering.

Help the weak, cure the sick, convert sinners.

Grant through your intercessions many vocations to the religious life.

Obtain for us, O Mary, Help of Christians,

that having invoked you on earth we may love and eternally thank you in heaven.

Sacramental Program

If there are any students who have not been baptised, made their first Eucharist or been confirmed and would like to start or continue their sacramental journey, please contact droff@arm.catholic.edu.au. The College will do everything we can to facilitate this journey. Below is a quote from The Catechism regarding the nature of the sacraments.

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation”, whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptised) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence, they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1285)
