House Athletics Carnival - Friday August 16th .

With all the rain, wind and even hail we had leading up to the House Athletics Day I was quite concerned for our big day.  However, we were lucky to have a fine, rain free, although cold Carnival. We pushed through the events and just as the rain began, we were packing up. Perfect timing.

The students arrived all dressed in their house colours, excited, keen and eager to compete.  The track and field events were set up and manned by our parent helpers. We were ready to go.

Parents, grandparents, friends and siblings all turned up to cheer and support. Staff and parent helpers were invaluable in making the whole day run smoothly and successfully.  A huge thank you goes to all and our Marlborough Community.

I was so impressed with the effort and enthusiasm of all students, staff and parents. Lots of students did their Personal Best.  I really enjoyed watching the participation of all students who, although exhausted, were still giving it their all. The whole carnival was electric.

A big thank you to everyone, especially those behind the scenes helpers: Alison T, Tanya D, Jane B, and Sue B and to my helpers at the track set up: Mary-Ellen D, Beth A, Jordy A, Pamela V, Archer V , Lisa R and Peter N. Thank you to Neil Butler for his ongoing support of House Athletics.

Congratulations to our winner, Cawley House - their name is now third on the new Marlborough House Athletics plaque. Jones were second, Kenny third and Ford fourth.

District Athletics will be held on Wednesday September 4th, for all 5/ 6 students and selected 3 /4 students.

Division Athletics: Tuesday October 15th

Heathmont College Asian Day

On Thursday 15th of August, I accompanied 20 of our Grade 5 students to Heathmont College for Asian Day.  Five other local primary schools took part in the day and it was a great opportunity for the students to work together. The students participated in different workshops such as origami, mask making, martial arts and Indonesian dancing.  Another highlight was nasi goreng and Japanese salad for lunch, which we all enjoyed. A big thank you to Bu Devathas and Heathmont College for providing such an amazing experience for our students.

This term has flown by with our Indonesian language assistant, Bu Henna. The students have been immersed in different cultural experiences such as learning anklung, a traditional bamboo instrument, and learning different Indonesian songs and dances.

We will showcase a few of these new skills at assembly in Week 9.

National Health and Physical Education Day

Australian school children rank among the worst in the world when it comes to their physical activity levels. To tackle this problem, they need to be taught skills and have better knowledge and understanding of how to lead active and healthy lifestyles.

That’s why National Health and Physical Education (HPE) Day has been designed to raise awareness of, and advocate for, a greater focus of HPE in our schools.  Marlborough Primary School has registered to participate in National Health and Physical Education Day .
