School Uniform

It’s great to see most of the students in school uniform.  Just a reminder that all students must be in full uniform each day.  If for any reason your child is not in uniform please send a note informing the school as to why and when they will be back in full uniform.

Hoodies and leggings are not part of the uniform. If you find that your child has outgrown their uniform, the uniform shop is open between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

VISE 2020

On Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd December, ten year 9 students attended the Virtual Indigenous Science Experience (VISE 2020). This is an experience run yearly by Melbourne University and Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC), however this year it had to go online (using Zoom) and was conducted out of our own Science room at Merbein P-10. The students were involved in a number of hands-on science workshops including:

  • Anti-bacterial Medicines – looking at a variety of plant samples and how they produce chemicals that have anti-bacterial properties.
  • Coding a mini computer – learning how to display messages and detect changes in the environment around us.
  • Caring for Country – looking at the successful management of our water ways.

They also participated in mentor panels, meeting current and former Indigenous students of Melbourne University. They spoke with the staff of Murrup Barak, a support service for Indigenous students of Melbourne University and had a virtual tour of the campuses of Melbourne University. They met with Indigenous leaders working in the fields of Medical Research, Technology and Veterinary / Agricultural Sciences.  They met and collaborated with other students throughout Victoria using Zoom.

Doctors in Secondary Schools Program

The program is available for all secondary students to access free (bulk-billed) confidential health care at school. This is a fantastic service which students can access for any of their health care needs including asthma/anaphylaxis plans, immunisations, mental health care and any other medical concerns no matter how big or small.

The rooms are open every Wednesday during the school term from 9am–1pm. Students can make appointments by contacting Yvonne in the general office or they can ask a teacher or wellbeing staff member to make the appointment for them – the only details required to make an appointment will be the student’s name and date of birth.

Parents are welcome to attend appointments with students if the student wishes.
