Doncaster Secondary College - Student Reports 2018

This year there will be changes to the way subjects are reported on. Instead of one summary report at the end of a term or semester you will be able to see Learning Tasks with comments and grades on the following dates, March 12, May 14, June 25, Aug 20, Oct 15, Dec 10.

The end of semester reports will now be a summary of each subject with only Victorian Curriculum levels and grades for key tasks displayed.

What this means for Parents:

Parents will need to log into Compass and look at Learning Tasks on or just after the dates published above.

You will be able to regularly monitor student progress and see feedback about specific tasks and how students can improve. For detailed results and comments please click on the blue title of the task. Instructions are attached.

You can use this feedback to help plan for Students Led Conferences on 27 March, and 18 September.

What this means for Students:

Students will need to ensure Learning Tasks are submitted on time with maximum effort applied.

You will be able to regularly monitor progress towards your goals and see feedback about specific tasks and how to improve. For detailed results and comments please click on the blue title of the task.

You will use this feedback to plan for Students Led Conferences on 27 March, and 18 September.h.

SEMESTER REPORTS

Teachers will choose key grades from a variety of Learning Tasks to be exported to the summary reports at the end of the semester. These will be available to upload from Compass on 19 July.

More help on finding feedback on learning tasks can be found in the document below.

Year 12 Student Led Conferences

In the coming weeks, students who study a year 12 subject should be preparing for their upcoming student-led conferences (SLCs). The purpose of these conferences is for your child to lead the conversations.

You can expect the following things to happen during your child’s conference:

  1. Your child will start the conversation with the subject teacher
  2. Your child will discuss their successes and challenges with the subject teacher
  3. The teacher will provide some feedback or strategies to help assist their learning
  4. Your child will record these comments

Booking appointments: Wednesday, 8 August, 2 to 6 pm

Families are encouraged to book appointments via Compass. It is recommended that you do this with your child, so they are aware of the schedule. Once all bookings have been made, please provide the schedule to your child. Bookings open on Tuesday, 31 July.

How can I support this process?

  • Review your child’s Subject Reflection Template
  • Ask questions of your child if you do not understand something
  • Let your child discuss their improvement strategies with you. Encourage them to reach their goals
  • After your child has led you through the conference, the teacher will answer any questions you might have
