VCAL Victory

On Monday 25 November, the Senior and Intermediate VCAL students went to Lysterfield Lake as part of transition to complete their learning outcomes. We successfully planned and organised a complex activity in an autonomous manner.

Four days prior to the excursion, we ran a bike safety check with the intermediate VCAL students to check if they knew how to ride a bike. On the day of the excursion we ran another bike safety check with the students and we then put the bikes on the rack. After that the senior and intermediate students travelled on the public bus to St Paul Apostle Primary School.

When we reached the primary school, half of the students took the minibus and the other half rode the bikes to Lysterfield lake.  After we got to our destination, the group was split up and the intermediate VCAL went on the bike ride around the lake while the seniors went down to the beach to start the BBQ.

Once everyone had eaten, the seniors began the soccer game down by the lake. The senior VCAL students planned a photo competition for the intermediate VCAL students. It was set up so that, the intermediate VCAL students in their groups send their photos to the seniors who will put it into a survey and then send it to the entire school to vote on which group has the best picture, the winning group gets a prize.

8HISTORY INCURSION 2019 SEMESTER 2: REVIEWS

The incursion was a great experience, as we got to work as a team and collaborate our ideas, which contributed to the making of our castles. All of our ideas combined really well and we successfully used our teamwork and creative energy to complete our work on time. The lunch that was served worked very well with the Medieval themed day, with the chef and his team working very hard to make such a pleasant meal. Overall, we had a great time.

During the Year 8 History incursion, we had the opportunity to build a Medieval castle from the research and plans that we did in class. It was a very enjoyable experience and our group was quite successful and happy with our end product. Although there were some challenges along the way, we were able to overcome them and complete our castle. It was even better with the Medieval lunch and being able to spend the day with our friends. Overall, it was a great experience and we highly recommend it for future Year 8s, as we learned a lot about the topic through hands-on learning and investigation, and developed teamwork skills required to build the castle.

The incursion was quite fun. We really enjoyed building castles with our friends. We also appreciated there were lots of materials available for us to use. The end product was nice to look at, as we worked hard to make the castle. It was a success making the castle, we made it very detailed and it looked very life-like.

In this incursion, we had to build a Medieval castle. Everyone made their castles unique, including us. We liked it because we got to experience how it felt to build a castle and to be living in Medieval times. Also, we surprisingly loved the food because it was delicious and crispy.  Additionally, now we know that people worked hard to build castles, as we imagined living and working during this period. We would like to thank the school for giving us this opportunity, and the teachers who supervised us and gave us the materials for the castle. Furthermore, we would like to thank the Year 9s for making the delicious food, and Mr Dias, for teaching us about history and learning what history is all about.

Greetings from Cambodia

Ms Ashleigh Holly and Mr Mark Alexander share adventures of their latest travels.

"Our first night with the brothers last night and as always they prepared us a beautiful meal that we shared together as friends. I really cannot describe the incredible cohesion of this group. The way they are forming bonds together and working together is an amazing thing to see."

"As we go into our last days of teaching and this trip it is hard not to sit back and reflect on this amazing journey. I am truly grateful for being blessed with the honour of leading this group. They inspire me everyday. Watching the students here and playing with the local kids each day fills me with such joy. They are so happy, excited about learning and keen to spend every moment interacting. My heart is full! Even if I have to give 1000 helicopter spins and carry endless kids across the monkey bars, their love of life, learning and endless giggles makes the whole sweaty afternoons worth it!"

Keep up the amazing work- looking forward to seeing all staff and students once they return 😄✈️
