Year 9 French Film Excursion - Dilili a Paris
On Thursday 7 March all the Year 9 students who are currently doing French as one of their electives attended an excursion. We went to Como Cinema to watch ‘Dilili à Paris.’ The movie was great as it incorporated aspects about Paris over one hundred years ago. Everyone enjoyed the animation whilst practising some French (or reading the subtitles). The plot was quite interesting. A young girl called Dilili and her friend (the deliveryman) ventured across Paris to investigate and resolve the mystery of kidnapped girls. Along the way, they met many famous French historians, painters, scientists – all famous characters who influenced France over time through the French language and culture. It was interesting to see the famous buildings in Paris, as well as the French culture of that era. It was also fascinating to see the famous people in France at that time, such as Madame Curie, a scientist who made breakthroughs about radioactivity.
Obviously, Dilili and her friend saved other girls from being kidnapped by solving the mystery, while progressively having many adventures throughout Paris, and getting help from many people along the way. After we finished watching the movie, we went to the Jam Factory to have lunch. Accompanied by the teachers, we went to the restaurants nearby to buy some food. Thanks to Madame Peerbux for the wonderful day — it was an enjoyable experience!

Cultural Diversity Week Events
From 18 to 22 March, the Mordialloc College community celebrated Cultural Diversity Week. Every morning classes had a chance to do a daily quiz, which tested our knowledge of facts and cultural aspects about France and Japan (relating to the two languages that the school offers: French and Japanese. The winning class for this quiz competition each day was rewarded with some lollipops. Each lunchtime there were also many activities that students at all year levels could participate in. On Monday, we watched some French and Japanese movies. We could do some origami, trade cards, play Kahoot and do a spelling bee on Tuesday. We created a multiculturalism poster on Wednesday. During our Mentor lessons, we also participated in some intercultural games, which was fun! On Thursday, students had the opportunity to attempt calligraphy, a form of beautiful handwriting. Finally, on Friday, teachers held Bocce games on the oval. Everyone who participated received house points.
The canteen menu was altered throughout the week to show support for various cultures. Croissants, crepes and chocolate pastries were sold throughout recess and a variety of meals for lunch: vegetarian Gyoza, Asian Stir-fry, Chana Masala and Rice, Mexican Chilli and Tomato Basil Pasta. The week was very fun and a great way to explore new cultures we may have not have known a lot about before.
Today, at our Middle School Assembly, all participants were presented with their certificates and prizes. Our first prize winner was Anna Kuppe with a colourful poster and some amazing illustrations. I came 2nd and l enjoyed making the poster and learning about why multiculturalism is important and how it is prevalent in our society.
Overall, I really enjoyed the week and would like to thank Madame Peerbux, Ms Baker and all the other teachers at the school who helped to organise all the activities.
