Anson Farm Wine Launch

On Friday 26th November, our 2019 Tempranillo wine was launched. Stormy weather didn't deter senior executives from schools in the Orange Network and our neighbouring Catholic High School from turning up to taste and purchase the most recent vintage. Anson Farm wine is a joint venture between Anson Street School and Orange High School. The students tend to and harvest the grapes, Phillip Shaw winery produces the wine under the guidance of Daniel Shaw.  Cartons of 12 and gift packs of 6 are available for purchase through the admin office.

Murray Paterson (former Molong CS and Canobolas Rural Technology HS Principal) spoke and explained the beginnings of the project back in 2006 when Mr Brotherton was our Principal and wanted to do something different with the land that involved other schools and potential employment for our students. Originally the project involved Canobolas RTHS, Orange HS and Anson Street School. Murray said that 1,600 vines were planted! He explained that the Spanish Tempranillo grape was chosen as it grows best in a cool climate with high altitude and the team hoped that Anson Farm could crack a niche market.

Orange HS provided smoked Rainbow Trout harvested from their aquaponics system,  prepared by hospitality students and we also had delicious nibbles from Delish. Thank you to all involved, especially Mrs Owens who coordinated the event. As a side note, the windmill on the label is on our farm and came from Mrs Owens' dad's farm. He donated it years ago to be a decorative piece in the vineyard.

If you are interested in purchasing a half dozen Christmas pack put together by the Year 12s or a carton of 12, orders can be made through the front office. The 6 pack is $120 and a carton of 12 is $180.

Orange Ex-Services Club Christmas Party

On Wednesday we had our annual Christmas party and Santa made a very welcome appearance to hand out presents and lollies to excited children.

This is the 39th year that the Ex-Services Club has very generously donated their time and resources to come onboard and cook a delicious BBQ lunch plus provide books for every student at our school. Some of the club members have attended every year and often tell us stories of previous visits and reminisce about staff, students and how the school has expanded and grown.

Presentation Day

Thursday 9th December was our first virtual Presentation Day where we Zoomed into homes, work spaces and classrooms to celebrate our biggest and best achievements for 2021. Excited students and equally excited parents, carers and extended families tuned in to watch awards be presented to very deserving recipients. We would like to thank the special guests who attended to present awards: Mr Kevin McGuire CEO of Wangarang, RDA representatives Robyn Livermore and Boss Duff, Toot Keegan, Cathy Huggett and Anita Munday from the P&C.

If you would like a commemorative program sent home please contact the office.

Congratulations to all award recipients for your achievements throughout 2021.

The Rite Journey

The finalé of "The Rite Journey" program took place on Wednesday and the boys went out to Mortimer's Wines to learn some viticulture skills, before cooking a BBQ and reflecting on a very positive 2021. Callum, Khylan, Blake and Deacon braved the rain whilst "feathering" the Mortimer's Chardonnay vines. The day was a huge success and a great conclusion to the 2021 program. The boys were well behaved and learnt some valuable skills about work, well-being and life.
