Year 12 HSC Exams

Thankfully, finally, the Year 12 students have been able to show their wares by sitting their HSC examinations which started this week. All the feedback has been positive so far and we look forward to seeing them amply and rightfully rewarded for the efforts they have made. They have had an extraordinary 24 months and we are working to ensure they face no more interruptions.

As they continue through their examinations we send them this prayer in support:

Heavenly Father, we bring before you our HSC students.

Give them the gifts of wisdom, right judgement, knowledge and courage.

Bless them with calm hearts and clarity of mind as they sit for their exams.

May they be affirmed in their efforts and may they know that you are there with them. We pray that they will stay calm under pressure and work to the best of their ability.

May they feel your loving presence in their lives, now and always, and may they be strengthened by the prayerful support of us, their college community.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

200th Year of Catholic Education Mass

On the 3rd November Bishop Mark Edwards OMI led a Mass to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Australia. Dignitaries from State and Local government such as local member Dr Joe McGirr and Mayor Greg Conkey were joined by the leaders of the National Catholic Education Commission and Catholic Schools NSW, Jacinta Collins and Dale McInerney. They were also joined by CEDWW leadership, Mrs Elizabeth O’Carrigan and her team along with Principals and student representatives of schools in the region.

The history of the Diocese was also reflected by the presence and if unable the best wishes from the many Religious orders who have served the young people and families of the Diocese- The Presentation, Mercy and Josephite sisters along with the Christian, Marist and Patrician Brothers, who led our schools until they transitioned to lay leadership. This College is a microcosm of that history.

Bishop Mark also launched the new book, Our Story, Sowing Seeds from Generation to Generation. This book, convened by Sr. Anne Henson, tells the story of Catholic Education in the Diocese, which began with a small schoolhouse in Albury starting in 1855. Copies of this can be obtained through the College if you wish @$20 each. It is indeed a quality read.

Remembrance Day

The College paused to remember the Armistice of 11/11/1918 and all fallen in war yesterday at 11.00am. We were also represented at the Wagga RSL Remembrance service by our College Captains, Josie Carroll and Gus Goodyer.

Such services and remembrances are vital. We should never lose sight of what those before us sacrificed to give us what we have today. It is too easy to take such things for granted. The Ode of Remembrance is well worth reflecting on.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them….Lest we Forget”

Kildare Foundation Scholarship

All Year 10 families have been emailed twice now about scholarship applications from this Foundation which can cover one year of tuition fees. I encourage all Year 10 and 11 students and families to consider an application. These close on Friday 19th November.

School Fees 2021

By this point all boarding families have been notified regarding changes to fees and charges for 2022 onwards.

Also, all KCC families have been notified of tuition fees for 2022.

Policies in 2021 have been clarified and operationalised in 2020/21, which I know have not always met with welcome. I apologise if anyone has not been met with a compassionate ear in the past. We are ensuring now that processes and communications are as they should be, compassionate, fair and equitable.

These requirements have been required due to government funding guidelines which require any family receiving support with school fees to lodge supporting evidence with the school. Otherwise assistance cannot be provided. I have no latitude in that requirement.

In the absence of this, the full fee account is to be paid, which is the case for most families. Can I please remind all that regardless of whether a family is receiving support or not, the fees or the agreed amount for a year need to be paid by the end of the school financial year, which for KCC is 4th December, unless an alternative arrangement has been negotiated with the finance office.

As always, please make contact early if there is any issue impacting on the capacity to pay fees.

Ongoing Covid 19 issues

We continue to be working under Level 3 requirements which have not moved much for schools, unlike the general community. We thank everyone for their ongoing cooperation and patience. These restrictions are placed on us by NSW Health, which must be complied with by all.

Part of the guidelines is that all students in indoor settings must wear a mask which covers the mouth and nose, not just the mouth. A disposable mask should be replaced daily with a fresh one and a cloth mask should be washed daily.

Thank you again for your support with Covid compliance. Our thoughts are with our feeder Primary School communities at Sacred Heart, Henschke and Holy Trinity as they manage cases in their schools at the moment. We have been through this ourselves and know that good Covid guideline compliance reduces the impact on the whole community when a case hits.

From Monday 15/11 Ms Christie Scutti is taking four weeks of Long Service Leave, ending the school year and she will return for the new College year in 2022. I’d like to thank her for the amazing support she has been to me as I have learnt the KCC community. She is a very talented leader and I wish her well for her break.

Ms Christine Savage will be the Acting Assistant Principal in her absence.
