Remembrance day

Yarrabah's Student Leaders, Paige and Josh, lowered the flags to mid mast in recognition of Remembrance day.  We also had a minute's silence at 11:00 am on the 11th of November.

Reading Corner: Staff Recommendations - Sharyn's Choice

With Christmas coming up, one of my favourite stories to read as a child was "Father Christmas" by Raymond Briggs.   It is written in the style of a graphic novel or comic strip. There are lots of pictures to pique your imagination making the story one that can be read or imagined.  The story starts on Christmas eve and we see a grumpy Father Christmas getting ready for his long day ahead.  Along the way, we see Father Christmas face such challenges as, how to get presents into a caravan without a chimney. I love the way it humanises Father Christmas and we get a glimpse into his day-to-day life. The story is available on Youtube, here is the link: https://youtu.be/lGl8LZFdUtk, or you can view it down below.

If you would like to find out about what the world celebrates then "A Year Full of Celebrations and Festivals" compiled by Christopher Corr and Claire Grace is the book for you.  It is full of colourful illustrations and features 90 festivals from around the world.  It is divided into four sections; spring, summer, autumn, and winter.  There are festivals that are national holidays, some that honour different religions and some that mark an important date or event, and others that are just for fun.
