It's the Principal.

News and words of wisdom from our Yarrabah Principal.

Dear students, staff, parents and carers,

We are all looking forward to seizing the moment and reinventing a new way of working for the remainder of this year.

With the new COVID19 rules, our school will be less likely to close. Staff and students will spend less time away from school if contacted and this will mean more time at school with our colleagues, friends, and families.

Over the next few weeks, we have some significant catching up to do. We will do this as safely as possible. I am particularly looking forward to the last two weeks, of which there are several special events planned.

This week,  many students across the school may take a community outing with their group. This might be either a local walk, a train ride, or a bus trip. Students and staff will look forward to transferring the skills being taught on campus to the real world during these outings. Masks should continue to be worn when using public transport or travelling on the school buses.

During the third last week (29th – 3rd Dec) we will get together over WebEx or on the phone for a final Student Support Group Meeting. It’s really important that we meet to review the IEP together. We will also begin preparations for student transition to their next section. Over the coming weeks, mini transition events will be planned to familiarise students with new groups and environments.

In the second last week (6th – 10th Dec) our middle and senior graduates will be joined in celebration by their family, peers, and staff to celebrate the graduations. Graduations will be in the staff room this year. More information will be provided to those involved very soon.

In the last week of school (13th – 16th Dec) we will hold a colour fun run on the school oval, we will run a school disco, students will be involved in a whole school collective art project, students will enjoy the school pool with fun swimming day.

On the final day (Thursday 16th Dec) some sections will experience the Mordialloc Carnival in the morning. In the afternoon we will farewell our senior graduates in the avenue of honour. This tradition has become a real highlight in the school calendar and should not be missed.

The final day of term is a student free day. Friday the 17th of Dec is reserved for 2022 planning and staff PD and preparations.

It’s been a long dive for many however we are coming back to the surface for a well-earned breather. The rules will mean that we spend more time at the top and less time treading water.

I am looking forward to next week and encourage you all to make an appoi9ntment via Compass to see your teacher in the Student Support Group (SSG).

SSG Meetings - make a booking on Compass

You are all invited to book a time on Compass with your teacher for the final Student Support Group (SSG) meeting of the year. Student Support Group Meetings will be held using WebEx between the 29th of November and the 3rd of December. You can choose a time between 3.00 pm and 4.30 pm

This is an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and achievement in the IEP and the year as a whole. Meetings will be scheduled for 30 minutes in duration. At the meeting, you will be able to discuss the outcome of the goals that were set for your child with their teacher.

When you log into Compass, you will be provided with a number of options for booking next week. The teacher will then send you a confirmation letter home on Thursday or Friday. If you have any concerns or are unable to book online, please contact the school on 9580 0384 to make a booking.

Kind Regards,

Matthew Harris
