TPS Social Committee The Social Committee is a group of parents and carers of students at TPS who are interested in getting together to raise much needed funds for our school. However, we are not just about raising money - we are about creating fun events and activities for the whole school community. Last year we raised just over $10K which will go towards a new multimedia studio in the Babajen!

There are many different roles to fill on the committee some are behind the scenes planning, designing, marketing and promotions, some setting up stalls, selling cakes or flipping a sausage or two..

School Council News

We’re only a few weeks in to term, but the year is already in full swing!

We farewelled Leon Bell at our school assembly.  We thank Leon his dedication and work for TPS and our school community. I n Leon’s 5 years at TPS he endeared himself to many families, students and staff. We wish Leon all the best in his  as Principal at Streeton Primary.

An enormous thank you to Megan Noy for stepping as Acting Principal and Emma Cornish-Giles for stepping into Acting Assistant Principal.

With the impacts of COVID, staff changes and more there has been lot to work through and we are immensely grateful for all the fabulous work our school leadership team and staff have been undertaking at the time.

The start of a school year brings new opportunities to get more involved in the school community and helping to make TPS the very best it can be. If you have ideas, a passion for making a difference, and are a great collaborator please consider being part of TPS School Council. Nominations are now open and it is a wonderful opportunity to play a key role in helping to improve and enhance our school.

A big thanks to members of TPS School Council and our school community over the last year who have worked to help deliver many projects including:

  • working through social procurement processes to produce a new batch of NAIDOC t-shirts with an Aboriginal owned and managed manufacturer (one of the first Victorian schools to have uniforms produced by an Aboriginal owned and managed business!)
  • reviewing the OSCH program and working to restructure the way the service runs at TPS, with a new provider appointed.
  • advocacy to our local state member Kat Theophanous, the VSBA and Minister Merlino regarding improvements needed to our school buildings and grounds.
  • advocacy to Darebin Council for road safety improvements to local streets and infrastructure around our school to support families to get to and from school safely.
  • with the support of the social committee we raised more than $10K to fully fund the set up of a dedicated multi media studio that will enable our students to quality record music performances, produce podcasts and more.
  • Foundation recipe pilot project – which will be expanded this year. Stay tuned for more information about this exciting project.

This has all been possible thanks to the help of so many families, staff and the TPS community. Special thanks to our outgoing School Council members Matthias, Amanda and Melanie. With Matthias leaving we have big shoes to fill as School Council Treasurer and would be especially keen for anyone with finance/accounting experience to get involved.

Many thanks to everyone that helped at the recent Welcome BBQ or the Working Bee. We can achieve specular things when we work together. There’s many ways to take part and get involved at TPS. Whether it’s through School Council, one of the sub committees or volunteering to help at events there’s lots of ways to contribute.

Please contact School Council if you’re interested in being more involved, have skills to share or other things you’d like to discuss with us. We’d love to hear from you. Email schoolcouncil@thornburyps.vic.gov.au
