In the Art / Craft Room

Art

A big welcome to all our families, especially to our new Prep community. For families that don’t know me, my name is Antoinette Vaiano. I have been teaching art at TPS for a long time now. I teach mainstream art and Steiner craft.

We started the term reviewing our Deadly Values by creating collaborative deadly art works. All students created artworks that are based on the Surrealist art game called “Exquisite Corpse”.  Students needed to demonstrate our deadly values of trust, respect, integrity, perseverance and of course working together, to complete their artworks. I have included images showing students working collaboratively on their designs.

In week three we started work on our folio designs. Students in prep to grade four explored graffiti style and comic book speech bubbles.  Grade five and six classes were given the freedom to choose their own designs. Students always create the most original and creative designs on their folios and it is something that all students look forward to at the start of every year!

This term we will be exploring Pop art focusing on a few select artists.  We will focus on the artists Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and KAWS. Students will study these artists and create artworks that are inspired by them. We will use the mediums of painting, drawing and collage to create these works.  Art elements such as colour, texture, shape and form will also be explored.

To support student learning, parents will soon be invited back into the art room. Once this becomes official you will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.

Looking forward to working with all you again,

Antoinette Vaiano

This term all students will continue to develop their craft skills by working on year level appropriate crafts. All classes will have the opportunity to create wet and needle felted craft items as discussed with each class. The preps have made a great start developing their needle skills by threading various recycled items onto wool to make mobiles and necklaces. The children really enjoyed making these.
