PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

St Mary MacKillop College is the best place to be a Principal. I have had so many reasons to be proud of our school over the past two weeks. Last week I attended the Year 9 camp at Cape Bridgewater. This is the only school camp that I have never attended, so I was unsure of how the camp operated. The organisation by Mr Hirst and the camp site coordinator ensured that we participated in many wonderful activities. The Year 9 students are to be commended on the positive way that they engaged in the activities.

Our Year 10 students, this week, began their CHARTSEC driving adventure. 10B were the first to attend and feedback from the accommodation owner was glowing of the students. It is wonderful to know that our students are representing themselves and the school in such a positive and respectful manner.

Then last night I was privileged to have front row seats at the Swan Hill Theatre Group production of Mamma Mia. The staff, Talia Henderson, Sally Op’t Hoog, Nathan Lane, Rianne Quaife, Damian Howison; past students, Kate Mullan, Declan Myers, John Murray, Tim Lenton, Deanna Rovere; and present student Toni Mia Scalora and her mum Sandra Scalora, were all amazing. If you have not been to see this production it may not be too late. Shows continue until Saturday 27th November.

If you do miss out on Mamma Mia, don’t miss out on our School Production of Little Shop of Horrors, over two nights, Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th December. With COVID restrictions lifting we are able to offer more seats. Please contact the Front Office staff (03 5032 9771) to purchase tickets (patrons must be fully vaccinated or exempted).

The St Mary MacKillop College Presentation Night will be held on Monday 6th December at 7:00pm. We will be recording the Presentation Night and playing it via our Youtube channel again this year. Prior to the evening you will be sent an Operoo with a link to the video.

There are many things to be thankful for, however unfortunately we are also seeing quite a decline in the behaviour of some students and this is leading to a lack of respect for people, learning environments and facilities. Students have been spoken to about the damage that is occurring to chairs and tables, as well as window winders being removed and writing on walls. We will continue to work with our students to ensure that we can all belong to a school that is safe, inclusive and provides the best facilities that we can. I would appreciate your support by encouraging your child/ren to treat others how they would like to be treated and look after our resources so that we can all enjoy our environment and we are not having to continually spend money on replacing equipment etc that has been deliberately damaged by students.

The end of school year is quickly approaching. I am very much looking forward to our 2022 Year 7 students attending the school on Friday 10th December.
