Year 7 and 8 Update

2021 Summary

As we move towards the new education year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our learning community for all the hard work and resilience everyone has shown this year. I don’t need to remind anyone of the challenges our community has faced, with extended lockdowns, remote learning and last-minute shutdowns just to name a few. However, our parents, students and teachers have all risen to the challenge and excelled in many aspects of learning and school life. We, as a Year 7/8 team, would also like to recognise the learning and perseverance shown by our students. With CAT weeks currently in progress it is easy to see the progression of each student’s knowledge and understanding in each subject area.

As each year level progresses though our school, I look forward to another year with our 2022 Year 8 cohort and hope we can build on the positive relationships we as a team have formed with these students. I wish the Year 9 2022 group the best of luck with their next year of schooling. They are in great hands with their new Leading Teacher, Anthony. I would also like to mention how much we are looking forward to meeting our newest students in the Kurnai family, with Orientation fast approaching and knowing that the transition from primary school to high school can be a nervous time, I want to reassure families that we as a team will be working tirelessly to do everything we can to create a smooth transition.

KPA

It is with great pride that I can inform you that the Year 7 and 8 students have been recognised this year with record-breaking positive acknowledgments. The KPA’s (Kurnai Positive Acknowledgments) were introduced this year and our staff and students alike have excelled beyond all expectations. With parent feedback about the system all positive, we look forward to continuing the program in 2022.

In Year 7 and 8 alone, we amassed over 30,800 positive green write-ups. With 8A topping the entire school with over 5800, this is a fantastic effort by all the students. I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise some individual efforts with our top 10 students across year 7 and 8 (please see below).
