Year 8 STEAM

RVR Golfing Challenge

Year 8 STEAM students have been working on the RVR Challenge for the majority of Term 3 and beginning of Term 4. They took on roles such as project manager, engineer and coding specialist. Students showcased their Golfing companies to Year 7 students in the all where they received group feedback via Google Forms. They developed enterprise skills such as collaboration, leadership, problem solving and communication skills. Students enhanced their digital technology skills in 3D printing, laser cutting, Google Sites, Canva, electronic circuits, construction skills and Sphero coding.

What are Year 8 students saying about their learning in STEAM?

I have learned that STEAM is about being creative and thinking outside the box. I have developed skills in problem-solving, use of technology, creativity, group collaboration and communication.

I think STEAM has helped me develop working with different people and knowing you don't always have to be with the same people.

I have developed problem solving skills, collaboration skills, team work, and I have learned to persevere when things don't always go my way.

I have learned how to problem solve and work as a team with new people.

As a STEAM learner, I have developed more skills in Minecraft, Sphero, and TinkerCad. Minecraft really helped our team to really get our heads around what the courses were actually going to look like and Sphero really helped us make our codes.

I think my problem solving skills have grown better than the first time we started STEAM.

I have learnt how to use many softwares, expand my creativity and learn to always think outside the box.
