Mission

Mission Month: Socktober

Thank you Mater Dei for your contribution to the success of Socktober at Mater Dei in 2021. Thailand is known as the 'Land of a Thousand Smiles', a country renowned as much for the warmth of its people as for the warmth of its weather. We have given them an extra reason to smile this year through our generous contributions to the Good Shepherd Sisters Kindergarten Centre.

“If the children have a chance to study or prepare well

to go to school, it will be very good … for them. We try

to support them, and not only for education. Mind and

body has to go together for the children to develop.

I believe that if we really and truly help them with love,

they will grow and will have a good future.”

Our Reflection Walk Design competition closes this Friday 12 November. The winning student will win a $100 voucher at Eckersleys and their design will be displayed on each plaque on the walk permanently.

SRC 2022 Applications are Open

We are seeking student nominations across all Houses; Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 in 2022 are elected to the SRC. To make an application, please complete and submit this form.

Applications are due Friday 19 November 2021. Successful applicants will be notified prior to the end of Term 4, 2021.

In 2022, the Student Representative Council will work to 'represent' and 'engage' the student voice in our Community. As always, our team will have a strong social justice and service orientation, designed to build student leadership capacity. Successful student candidates may have the opportunity to serve a two year tenure.

All Souls Day

Last week on Tuesday 2 November our community prayed for all those that we have loved and lost. We remembered our loved ones that have died and students and staff were invited to come to the Peace Garden in year groups during Homegroup to light a memorial candle.

“May the memories of our time together live on in our hearts and minds. Remember always the comfort and infinite love of God is with you.”

Remembrance Liturgy

Today at 11.00am, classes participated in a moving Remembrance Ceremony Liturgy. We gathered in reflection and prayer, to keep the memories of all Australian heroes alive, while we acknowledged and gave thanks for the peaceful way of life we all enjoy today.

Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,

Sleep sweet - to rise anew!

We caught the torch you threw

And holding high, we keep the Faith

With All who died.

We cherish, too, the poppy red

That grows on fields where valor led;

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heroes never dies,

But lends a lustre to the red

Of the flower that blooms above the dead

In Flanders Fields.

And now the Torch and Poppy Red

We wear in honor of our dead.

Fear not that ye have died for naught;

We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought

In Flanders Fields.

We Shall Keep the Faith by Moina Michael, 1918
