What's happening in the classrooms?

Year 1/2

It has been great having the Junior students all back at school engaged in their learning and playing with their friends. In Religious Education, the students started the term investigating “How to care for the common home.” Students were challenged with their thinking by beginning to see God’s gift of creation as our responsibility to look after it. The students have now started learning about Lent and its significant role in the lead up to Christmas.

In Literacy, the Juniors have been focusing on phonics, reading and writing. In reading, the students have been learning about how to infer and summarise short texts. In writing, the Juniors have been learning how to write an information report using our Inquiry topic Sustainability, focusing their reports on Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.

In Maths, students have worked on their addition and subtraction skills over the past few weeks using a range of efficient mental and written strategies to solve to build their knowledge. The students have also been learning about mass and capacity, where they are beginning to describe the different outcomes using concrete materials.

We look forward to continuing our learning journey together and seeing where it is going to take us.
