Literacy Week

Literacy Week Monday 30th of April to Friday 4th of May

This year, Staughton College is celebrating all things literacy in week 3! There is a fantastic line up of activities for Literacy Week this year.  Create a team and challenge yourself in the Amazing Race, show off your amazing spelling skills in the Annual Spelling Bee, cheer on the Student or Staff team in the Great Debate, join in our lunchtime board games, and enter your witty writing into the writing competition.

On Monday, the 30th of April, Week 3, at lunch time, staff and students can create teams of 4 to participate in The Amazing Race. Teams will begin at a starting point, and they will answer literacy questions to get to the clue that will get them to the next station. The first team to complete the course will be crowned The Amazing Winners. See Ms. Rozynski.

Forget Hogwarts – the real spellmasters are found right here at Staughton’s Annual School Spelling Bee! Pit your wits against the best of the best as the year levels battle it out to see who is the best speller at Staughton. There are prizes up for grabs and reputations on the line, so sign up today. Bee spellbound by the mind-boggling brainpower of Staughton students in our School Spelling Bee, held on Tuesday, the 1st of May, Week 3. See Mr. Cork.

Visit the Library and participate in a range of games to test your literacy skills. Wednesday, the 2nd of May only!

The topic is set. The teams are ready. Come and support the students, or teachers, in our debating competition. Friday, the 4th of May, at lunch time.  See Mrs. Allen.

Does Staughton have the next J.K. Rowling, Roald Dahl, or J.R.R. Tolkien in its midst? During Literacy Week, English classes will complete 3 short, 10 minute, creative writing activities that will get your mind ticking and your fingers writing! At the end of the week, you will pick your best piece of writing to submit into the inaugural Staughton writing competition. See Ms. Boorman.

Get your Literacy Passport, participate and spectate to collect all your stamps to be in the running for a prize. Don’t forget there is the daily quiz as well. We are looking forward to another fantastic week celebrating Literacy.
