Year 10 Work Experience

A big congratulations to all of our wonderful Year 10 Students who completed Work Experience placements towards the end of last term. Work Experience is a short term placement of secondary school students, with employers to provide insights into the industry and the workplace in which they are located. It provides valuable opportunities to develop employability skills and explore career options.
Our Year 10 students had placements in many varied industries including Architecture, Law, Childcare, Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing and Retail, just to name a few. I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Year 10 students who had found work placement in the Melbourne CBD. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting these students, some who were having to get up very early for the long commute. I thank all of the visiting Year 10 subject teachers and Coordinators Miss Herridge and Mr. Sharpley. I’m sure they all enjoyed the opportunity to connect with students outside of the classroom setting.
We hope that Work Experience provides our students the opportunity to taste what work life might be like, beyond Secondary College. The feedback from Employer’s has on the majority been outstanding. Once again several part-time jobs have been offered to students as well as some outstanding references being passed on from the employers. For the few who are doing a placement during the holidays, “Good Luck” and I’m sure you will have the same positive results
I look forward to hearing from our amazing Year 10 students via a Google Form that has been sent to them on Compass. I ask them to reflect on the past week and tell me about their Work Experiences, with hopes to display these next term, so the Year 10’s of 2020 can see what is possible.
I would like to send out a very special thank you to some great community members who answered the call to provide venues such as CW Cakes of Cheltenham and Gavan Schache from Rheem Australia who are supporting both our Work Experience Program and our Structured Work Placements for older students.
Thanks again to all Year 10 Students, Staff and our hard working Careers & Pathways Leader Miss Farrington - Williams
