Student Wellbeing

Student Representative Council

Two Student Representative Council meetings have been held so far this year. Below is a summary of the SRC’s  discussion and decisions for February and March.

Business discussed:

Mark asked if we could have more Hot Dog Days.

Colin replied: It has been decided that as a school, we will offer more healthy options.

Lakishia asked if Concord could have work experience for all primary aged students.

Colin replied: The priority is for Year 11/12 students as primary students have their class based program.

Luke B asked if the classes could have reward cards like at his old school.

Colin replied that “Success Cards” have just been introduced to another section and that he will discuss with team leaders.

Lakishia asked if we could have an Out of Uniform Day to raise funds for a charity.

There was some discussion amongst the whole SRC and it was decided that the money raised would go to the RCH Good Friday Appeal.

Action: Out of Uniform Day confirmed for Tuesday 27 March, gold coin donation.

Hardial informed the meeting that the drinking taps in 9/10 are not working properly.

Action:  Colin Daisley will check them out.

Chris N said that more sports equipment is needed for the yard.

Actions: New GaGa balls have just been purchased; also Colin will ask the Team Leaders to check on their supply.

Ruby  would like the pockets on the Concord School spray jackets to have zips to stop things falling out.

Action: Deb W has checked this out and this sort of nylon material is not practical to supply with zips. Individual students may have zips or Velcro added to their own spray jacket if they wish.

Hardial  has asked for new furniture in 9/10.

Action: Colin said “Thanks Hardial, staff are currently discussing this.”

Bree asked if students can get off the bus as soon as it arrives at Concord School in the morning.

Colin answered by saying that, as there are no staff on duty until 8:45 students have to remain on the bus at the front of the school until then.

Aaliyah would like thinner long pants instead of track pants for summer, as the current ones are too hot.

Action: Deb W will discuss this with the parents of individual students and make arrangements.

Chris N asked can we have tables in the Secondary Gardens, with a sunshade as well please.

Action: Colin will check with the architects but this will most likely be included in the upcoming redesign of the yard and new buildings.

Luca would like all 9/10 classes to be together in the new school building.

Action: Colin replied that this may not be possible but the architects will aim to have all sections together.

Rob P asked if Year 12's could have new style jackets as part of their uniform.

Colin asked that Year 12's submit a design to the SRC for consideration.

Thank you to all SRC members for your attendance and contributions at our first two meetings.

What is your role at Concord School?

Teacher at the Watsonia Campus

Provide us with a ‘snapshot’ into your daily routine at Concord School:

I walk to and from school most days. Before school I catch up on emails, prepare resources and chat to other staff. All my students arrive on the buses and once they get here our day really starts. Helping students to learn is the most important part of my day. Our first session is always reading. My favourite lesson to teach is maths because I love the counting and patterns. I bring my lunch most days and eat it in the staffroom. I enjoy my yard duty days, because I get to chat with lots of different students! After school, I organise the classroom and get ready for the next school day.

What do you love most about working at Concord School?

Working within such an awesome community of learners, teachers, ES staff and parents.
