Year 7-11 Term 3 Progress Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews

A reminder that Year 7 to 11  progress reports are now available on compass. We encourage all parents to read these and discuss them with your children, with a focus on what can be done to improve. Also a reminder that Parent Teacher interviews are on 19 September and will be booked though Compass this term. Instructions on how to do this will be sent home shortly. In the meantime, please make sure you are able to log on. If you experience difficulty please contact the General Office.

Speaker for Year 11

On Tuesday 7 August all Year 11 students were treated to a motivational speaker in terms of aspirations and focus for their final eighteen months at school.  The speaker was Ling Jong, an AFL football player for the Western Bulldogs.  Ling was very well received by the group and they could relate to his story.  A number took the opportunity to have a photo with Ling at the end of his heartfelt speech.

Year 12 VCAL Boot Camp

From Monday, 13 August until Wednesday, 22 August all Year 12 VCAL students took part in a job ready Boot Camp.  This intensive preparatory program for when they have completed school included goal setting using the SMART goal protocol, developing a resumè and mock interviews.  Students received feedback and on the completion of the program all received a certificate acknowledging the work they had done during the Boot Camp.  Congratulations to all the students who completed this program and in particular to Bao Nguyen, Wendy Truong and Christian Solo on receiving an award for outstanding achievement across the entire program.  Congratulations to the Senior Sub School Team for organising such a wonderful opportunity for our students.

Year 8 Parent Evening

Thanks to all of the families who attended the recent Year 8 Parent Evening. It was a great opportunity to hear our students perform, and to gain an understanding on learning from their perspective. Thanks to the Junior Sub School team for organising the event.

Course Counselling

Almost all year levels have now completed the course counselling process, and planning based on this has commenced for 2019. We would like to thank the Careers team, led by Ms Cathy Armstrong, as well as the counselling teams, for all their work in supporting students to select appropriate pathways.

And finally...

We are looking forward to Youth Day this week (even the dunking machine!) and to all of the activities and fun that our VCAL students and the SRC are planning for the school community. Thank you to VCAL for their work to bring us a great day. Stay tuned for photos and reports in the next edition of Alba News.
