STUDENTS ARE SAYING...

TAGGED: Yr 8 Cyber Culture

All Year 8 classes learned about the extent of bullying and the impact it has with Ms. Harrex.

The program went for two periods and during this time, we covered a lot of topics, including everything from the spreading of one little rumour to blackmail and using it to threaten other people.

We understood that we need to think about the the outcomes of our choices and the decisions we make.

We also were shown a short film on bullying where three girls spread a lie online and ended up in a friendship falling apart, as well as school and police involvement.

This film truly was an eye opener, as most of us had zero idea that something so small could go so far. I think that the most controversial scene, which really got us all talking, showed that even if you move schools to get a fresh start, people can (and will) find out about your past and your relationships online.

The class asked a lot of questions about what the film meant for us and cybersafety in general. While some answers brought us back to using common sense,

After the film ended, we were handed a sheet that asked us to tick the boxes about what we were sharing online. (I believe that half our class ticked over half of the options on the checklist!)

We were all given a serious reality check over how much we are probably sharing online with complete strangers.

Overall, I believe that the Year 8 students really enjoyed “Tagged” and were appalled to see just how far things can go in the modern world in which we all live.

YEAR 9 CITY JOURNEY: MELBOURNE MUSEUM

On the 16th of June, the class of 9D went on their fourth City Journey outing.

A peachy rich glow filled the sky early that morning. Colours faded from a tangy yellow to a coral orange to a sweet pink. The icy frost on windows and cars were melting as the beautiful day grew warmer. And the train station, packed with rushing students as they prepared for their fourth City Journey adventure.

The task set for the students’ quest was to find matching destinations to images they were given back at school. A race against time, the class of 9D must manage to discover every destination and meet at the Melbourne Museum before 12.45pm. Unfortunately, some did not make it, and must now face the consequences.

Entering the specific area of the Museum known as “The Melbourne Story”, students must find each and every answer to the questions listed in their booklets. Searching for explanations and looking for key descriptions, the students managed to answer all questions and have some fun in the Museum after a full day of hard work.
