Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Students & Staff

Recent school events have included:

-   Presentation Ball for Year 11 students

-   Dance Fair Competition which we organise for our local primary & secondary schools

- NAPLAN Testing for Year 7,9 and accelerated Year 10 students

-  Cross Country run organsised by the PE Department

- Theatre Studies performance evening for Year 11/12 students

- North Eastern Region Youth Concert at Hamer Hall where we had 12 of our music students performing

-   National Science Competition

-   SEAL Testing day & parent seminar

So you can see that Fairhills continues to provide a wide range of learning opportunities for our students in addition to the National Curriculum which itself provides a comprehensive, systematic and engaging approach to the learning which is common to all Australian young people.

Over my time at Fairhills, I have participated in several study tours to other countries and have formed the view that the Victorian Education Department is one of the top 5 education systems in the world.  As part of the current educaton reform agenda our Department has set a number of big picture targets to be achieved over the next five to ten years to further enhance the educational outcomes of our students.  These divide into four areas:

-   Learning for Life (reading, maths, science, the arts and thinking)

Happy, healthy and resilient kids (resilience and physical activity)

-   Breaking the Link (reducing disadvantage and staying at school to Year 12)

-    Pride & Confidence in our schools

These are ambitious targets and some of them are world leading initiatives that will rely on the development of new measuring tools.  I have included an attachment in this newsletter to provide you with more details. As you will see, they focus on real life ambitions that are important for all students.  At Fairhills we will be doing our part to achieve the targets for our students.
