Orientation Day 2018

Orientation Day 2018
On Tuesday, 200 new Staughton students experienced their first day of secondary school during Orientation Day. Students were able to experience a day in the life of Staughton College, including classes and lunchtime activities. It was also wonderful to meet so many parents at the Morning Tea after the assembly.
Students participated in getting-to-know-you activities run by our amazing Wellbeing Team and joined in the fun activities with the Festival of Healthy Living. They also got to meet their classmates for next year and make new friends. The school radio, thanks to Will Cachia and the student DJs, provided lunchtime entertainment, as did the sports equipment which was well used on the day.
Maths, English and Science classes introduced students to their teachers for next year, and the Positive Behaviour Support sessions provided students with the opportunity to become familiar with our expected behaviours based around Learning, Effort, and Respect.
I would like to say thank you to Mr. Collins, Ms. Martinuzzo, Ms. Schmetzer, and Mrs. Cachia for all their hard work in planning and organising the day, and as well as all of the amazing student helpers who helped make the day so successful.
Congratulations to the following students for winning the merit card raffle at the end of the day:
- Storm Robinson
- Lemba Qalubau
- Delta Seinafo
- Olivia Stacey
- Shakiah Thomson
Each prize winner received a pizza voucher from Ajays Pizza and the are also able to choose the bell music for next year during Term 1.

Health Promotion at Orientation Day
On Transition day this year, the Wellbeing staff provided students with a positive experience in health promotion and healthy eating. Students received a Health Promotion bag which contained health service information for young people as well as products and fresh fruit.
In classes presented by Wellbeing staff, students received information from Western Water, Melton Youth Services, Freddy’s Fruit shop, Djerriwarrh Health and Dental Services, Bank of Melbourne, Head Space Melton, Beyond Blue, AJAY's Pizza and Sun Smart. Our Year 7 Health Promotion show bags are an integral part of our transition program, and the support of our community health organisations is valued and appreciated.
Students received beautiful fresh fruit from Freddy’s Fruit shop at morning recess and received items such as a water bottle from Western Water and stationary from Bank of Melbourne in their promotional bags. AJAY's pizza also provided vouchers for students who demonstrated positive behaviour and provided assistance on the Transition Day.
A great day had by all and we look forward to seeing the new Year 7’s even happier and healthier next year.
