Extend After School Care at Kilvington Grammar School

Our Recap

What an action packed couple of weeks it has been here at After School Care!

The weather has been absolutely divine which has allowed us to spend the whole afternoon outside! The sun has been shining and spring is definitely in the air! Being outside has seen the kids really enjoying having a go at the new totem tennis. The queues to play have been getting longer and longer every day! There have been many an afternoon spent in the sandpit, on the playground and perfecting our football skills as the finals have approached.

Although we have spent lots of time outside, there has also been a bit of time inside making some great arts and craft. There were some great creations made from cardboard rolls with many making some colourful fish, octopuses, storm troopers and even ice creams! Children also made some brilliant finger puppets with many choosing to make cats, dogs and some people as well! It is safe to say that these kids are a lot more creative than I ever was and will be. They are definitely teaching me a thing or two!

The past two weeks has also seen the return of some favourite cooking activities. After many requests and pestering I succumbed and let the children make sushi! As always, it was very messy but the kids had a great time making their own from scratch, adding in lots of veggies and of course soy sauce! It was a bit tricky rolling it all together but by all reports it was YUM! Last Friday also saw the kids making some great fruit kebabs. We were very careful not to poke ourselves with the sticks! We had banana, strawberries, watermelon and grapes.

There have also been a few blind-folded tests that the children have participated in. The first saw the children in a touch test where they felt different items including butter, rice and pasta to name a few. The second was a taste test where the kids had to guess what fruit they were having. There were lots of laughs at some of the faces the children pulled after trying avocado!

It is with great pride to inform you all that all the study paid off! The staff scored a very narrow win in the trivia quizz, winning 15 points to 16 with questions ranging from geography, spelling and a bit of Kilvington history!

Finally, we would like to wish everyone a fantastic holiday break. After seeing all the hard work the children have put in at School it is thoroughly deserved! I look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4!
