Principal's Report

The Federal Senate Hearing into Security for women in retirement
MGC hosted a day of hearings of an important Senate Inquiry on 18th February, 2016. The Committee handed down its’ report on 29th April.
The introduction on page 2 illustrates the impact our girls had on the Senators.
1.13 These qualifications do not dim the committee's sense of urgency about the need to commence this transformation ).In early 2016, the committee held a hearing in the auditorium at Melbourne Girls College, and spoke with students from this school. These girls eagerly anticipate their future contribution to Australian society. We owe it to these girls, and girls Australia over, to ensure that their reward at the end of their lives will be a dignified and secure retirement. If we are to deliver this, we need to start now.
Thank you to our MGC parent, Robbie Campo, Deputy Chief Executive, Industry Super Australia who suggested MGC as a venue to the Senate Committee.

School Self Evaluation in preparation for the School Review
Mr. Ian Wallis has been working with us on a School Self-Evaluation which will inform our school review and subsequent 2017-2020 Strategic Plan. The process now follows the recently released Department of Education and Training Framework for School Improvement (FISO). Ian has spent time with students, staff and parents to inform this work.
Year 9 Music and Drama Showcase
Congratulations to Anne Corry and Lindy Mumme who fully deserve this excellent parent accolade:
“Hi Lindy, I just wanted to pass on my congratulations to you and Anne Corry and all the Year Nine students who took part in the performance night last night. It was wonderful to see the girls display all that you have both taught them in the last semester, with great skill and confidence. Like the comedy night I saw recently, I thought the standard was really high and a credit to you all. I particularly liked the original compositions - some of the singers could give those auditioning for The Voice a run for their money. Thanks and best wishes”
STEAM @ MGC
On the 11th, 18th and 19th May the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics S.T.E.A.M. room was a collaborative, problem based learning space for the day. The girls were each given a challenge to work on in periods 1-3 then showcase in period 4. Excellent work was achieved by our S.T.E.A.M. Leader, Wendy Keen; ICT Leader, Anthony Keen and Robbie Preece, ICT support.
