TERM 4 - WEEK 2

To the St Nicholas School Community

Term 4 is shaping up to be a very busy yet rewarding learning experience for all.

REAL Talk

This week both parents and students had the opportunity to attend online workshops and presentations from the team at REAL Talk Australia. The parent presentation was very beneficial in giving an outline and great tips on how to navigate certain topics with our children based on; self-worth and appreciating diversity, making good choices based on respect and love of self and neighbour, the impact of the media (including social media) on how we see ourselves and how we act, the importance of our bodies, the value and meaning of sexual body language, the beauty of healthy relationships and friendships. These topics were then unpacked by the team with the students of Year 4 and Year 6.

Book Week/ Book Fair

As our school community exerts their ‘wild minds’, creative flair and skill to prepare for the grand finale to Book Week, culminating with the Book Week Parade tomorrow, we must thank Mrs Julie McGuirk and the Library Leaders for all their efforts in making this week a huge success. Reading is a skill for life that we must celebrate. We cannot wait to see the ‘curious creatures’ that will invade our school tomorrow.

Big Write

Over this week and the next, the students are undertaking a writing process called ‘Big Write’. The students are very excited about this opportunity as they get to demonstrate everything that they have learned about the technique of writing and VCOP. We hope that all parents have taken the time to watch the video (available in the General News tab and on the School Facebook page) to help explain the process and the idea around ‘home talk’.

World Teachers Day

Next Friday 30th October, is World Teachers Day. This is an opportunity for us to thank our St Nicholas teachers for their dedication and professionalism. Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It has reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of students, their families and the community.

We warmly welcome Mr Clery back next Monday!

Enjoy the week ahead!
