From Principal Team

This week we have embraced this year’s NAIDOC theme: ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’

Always Was, Always Will Be which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists.

NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story did not begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 with Captain James Cook, or in 1606 with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations people.

This week at school, students have embraced the true history of this country – a history that dates back thousands of generations. It is about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000-plus year history of this country. As a school this is about moving forward and we have done this by recognising the significant contribution the First Nation’s People have played in the unique fabrication in making Australia the place it is today.

Over the week we have explored this magnificent history through a Tribute and acknowledgement to country by our student leaders to the whole school, an opportunity for our older indigenous students spending time with Rex Taylor youth worker from Baseline to Year 6 students engaging in a PowerPoint presentation and activities culminating in the graphic which represents NAIDOC week 3020 .

Our year 5/6 Student Sport returns on Friday for the first time since Term 1 and students will spend time playing traditional games

We need your help.

It is with much sadness and disappointment I share with you the vandalism and destruction occurring in our school after hours. The number of broken windows, smashed bottle and rubbish bins on the roof and people dancing on shade sails to destroy them is beyond a joke.

We have contacted our local police and asked for some additional drive-by's but if you see anyone misusing our facilities or hear glass smashing or partying please ring the police.

We need our school to be a safe place for our children and we need you to ensure it happens.

This is a photo of the bins from Primary on Wednesday this week.

I closing this week it has been wonderful to see the beginning of Prep 2021 Transition, the excitement of dress up days and the build up of anticipation of celebration days is amazing. You might remember we were planning a celebration of Music to raise funds for The Good Note foundation earlier this year, see the poster later in the newsletter announcing a day for music demonstrations and busking.

I hope you all get to catch up with your nearest and dearest bringing warm to your hearts. Believe me I saw my daughter this week - first time since March 8th. I have been singing from heart and soul all week
