News from Foundation

Check out our visitors

Since our return to onsite learning the Foundation team have jumped into this term's Integrated Studies unit - Great and Small. We have been discovering features, habitats, diets and interesting facts about Australian animals. Over the past two weeks we have been visited - via Zoom meetings- by Zoos Victoria who helped us to become Wildlife Explorers. We learnt about the Eastern Barred Bandicoot, Platypus and Helmeted Honeyeater. Did you know a Platypus tail works the same way as a Camel's hump to store fat for when food is in short supply? As Wildlife Explorers we know to: "Look Up, Look Down, Look All Around", as we explore and care for the environment around us.

Last week we had lots of fun as we learnt about Feathers, Fur and Scales from the education staff at Reptile Encounters. During these sessions we met amazing creatures such as the Barking Owl, Sugar Glider, Frill Necked Lizard, Musk Lorikeet and ......a Saltwater Crocodile!!! Yes a real live Saltwater Croc. We learnt so much about all of these animals including the fact that owls can not move their eyes. The eyes of an owl are very large to help them see animals and predators at night but this makes them difficult to move so instead a very flexible neck allows them to turn their head 180 degrees in both directions.

We have several more wonderful incursions planned so make sure to check in with your very own Wildlife Explorer to hear lots of interesting facts about our unique Australian animals.
