Walk and Wheel Wednesday Update

In the first 3 weeks of term our active rate is more than 50%, with more students riding and walking to school rather than being driven to school. This is great to see, and I love seeing the smiles on student faces as they enter the school gates feeling energised and ready to learn for the day.

Hopefully, even as the weather continues to get warmer, more students will be able to walk and wheel. And remember if you do live a long way away, park one or two blocks away from the school and encourage your child to walk the rest of the way, building their independence. Alternatively, if they are learning about how to walk safely and how to cross the road safely, this is a great opportunity for you to guide and teach your child these important life skills.

National Ride2School Day Sticker Competition

As this year has been a quiet year with Active Travel activities, we are all looking forward to events in 2021. National Ride2School Day will be on Friday 19th March and the Bicycle Network are running a National Ride2School Day Sticker Competition!

Ride2School are looking for new stickers for National Ride2School Day and need your child’s help! They want new stickers that celebrate the fun of walking, riding, scooting and skating to school and inspire even more students to get active.

The winning sticker design will become Ride2School’s official sticker and be shared in schools across Australia in time for National Ride2School Day on Friday 19 March 2021. Plus, the student with the winning design will win a brand new BYK bike for themselves and a healthy breakfast for their school.

Entries close on Friday 4th December and more details will be shared via email.

And to finish, here is the Walk and Wheel poem from Wednesday. It is written by Soren Bell in 3JT.

Tap Tap goes the street,

Walk and Wheelers to meet.

They’re all having fun,

And what is up? Well the sun.

Every day you can meet a friend,

Walk and Wheeling won’t ever end!

Stay well everyone, stay safe and stay active!

Julie
