Request for Instrumental Music Students to Turn Cameras On

We understand that, in some households, turning cameras on is not ideal where there is limited space and/or other people within view. We also understand that some students are legitimately uncomfortable with bringing other students into their space in this way. This is where backgrounds may be useful.

However, leaving cameras off seems to be increasingly a means of keeping a low profile and not being an active member of the class. It also makes instrumental music lessons far less effective as the teacher cannot monitor posture and technique.

If you are comfortable with the camera being on, we would ask you to please encourage the use of cameras in the instrumental music lesson. As soon as one or two people are brave and turn them on, others quickly follow. This makes for a much more personal, engaging and effective lesson.

Permission for Video Recordings

All students enrolled in music ensembles will have received a request for parent permission to video record through Parent dashboards on Compass. This is for video recording of the ensembles as soon as possible after we are back at school.

If parent permission is not received, your child will not be able to participate in these recordings. Please check your Compass Parent dashboard regularly so you don’t miss deadlines that may impact on your child’s participation.

Music Ensemble Rehearsals and Meetings

Ensemble conductors are using online rehearsal in a variety of ways ranging from online rehearsals to catch-up meetings or private practice time. All students should check their Compass schedules each week to see if ensemble rehearsals/meetings are happening on Teams, and also check email often so that important emails are not missed.
