Year 10 to 12

Term 4 Transitioning Back to On-site Learning

Year 12s

It was with great excitement that we welcomed our Year 12 students back to on-site learning at the start of this term! It was a tough start, with their first day back requiring students to sit the GAT from 10am to 1:15pm, but it was also a great relief to finally have this event done and dusted after so many postponements.

Wednesday 6 October saw the Year 12s return to normal classes and the chance to launch into their exam revision with their teachers and classmates. It was lovely to see students enjoying each other’s company again; chatting and laughing, playing downball and soccer in the yard and collaborating in the classroom.

Week 2 proved to be another rollercoaster of emotions as COVID once again de-railed our plans. On the plus side, Year 12 students enjoyed a “Dress-Up Week”, with each day having a particular theme. We started with “M &Ms day” where students wore a single colour, followed by “Twins Day”, “Occupation Day” (aka what do I want to be when I grow up ). Thursday saw the always popular and fun “Primary School Day”, where we marvel at those who can still fit into their Primary School Uniforms (sort of!), while at the same time realising just how much they’ve all grown. The week finished with a Halloween theme.

Unfortunately, by the end of the week, the gut-wrenching decision was made to end on-site classes for the Year 12s earlier than planned, to be replaced by a week of online revision and masterclasses. This was done to minimise the risk of students missing out on their English Exam if the school became an exposure site. We are so mindful of all the hard work students have put into their studies and want to provide the opportunity for them to demonstrate their knowledge in their exams and reap the benefits of their hard work.

We know that the cohort will be disappointed with missing their last week, but we know that they will “take it on the chin” and adapt to the new plans with the same resilience that they’ve had to display on many occasions these last two years.

We are planning a Celebration Valedictory Event to be held after the exam period. We hope this will provide students with an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and efforts across their secondary schooling. The format of this event is yet to be determined and will be based on further health advice from the Department.

Over the holidays, a letter was delivered to each of our Year 12 students which contained messages of hope and encouragement from their teachers. We all recognise what a difficult time these students have faced and we applaud their efforts. Those words will hopefully help our students through this next challenge and into the exam period.   You can find a copy of this attached below.

**Please note that the JB Hi Fi Solutions portal is no longer open for the sale of devices. This service is not available for 2022 purchases.
