Round the classes

Reception / Year 1: Mrs Measday

We have been looking at things old and new. First we looked at toys from yesteryear and toys of today. Trying to guess what they were was interesting. Next we looked at transport and we filled a page with drawings of lots of old and new transport. We even thought about what might come in the future.

We also got ready for the Uraidla Show. We have entered paintings in the style of Monet’s water lilies and also our collaborative sculpture.  In technology we worked with Stephen’s class and created a model of the Uraidla Show using various materials.

Reception / Year 1: Katie

Over the past two weeks we have been finishing our work on money. We have been experimenting with different ways of making a dollar and learning how to order money in accordance with its value. In literacy we have continued to learn new vocabulary words to add more detail to our narrative stories. Last week as  part of Design and Technologies we created marble mazes out of paper plates and cardboard. Finally as part of HASS we have been learning about  natural landmarks.

Year 2/3 class: Stephen

The students in the 2/3 class have been writing some "feelings poems" with Mrs Tume. They reflect feelings of sadness, happiness and loneliness. They were created using the Pic-Collage app. Here are some examples below.

Year 2/3 class: Kelly

This fortnight the students have been focusing on their narrative working. We have been revising what a narrative is and looking at how important it is for a narrative to 'entertain'. The students have been working on their paragraphs, punctuation and grammar.

In Maths we have been revising three dimensional shapes. The students have been busy creating three dimensional objects and have been working out how many faces, edges and vertices (corners) there are on each shape.

In Design and Technologies we have been looking at how green screens work. The students have been creating backdrops on their ipads and have had to be creative, finding out how they can fit themselves into the backdrop. We are continuing our research in History with how technology has evolved. The students are enjoying learning about how clothing, classrooms, phones, computers and movies have changed over time.

Year 4/5: Lizzie

This term we are working with Jo and Emily. We are doing a variety of different activities each week which encompass design and technology. So far we have made wheat bags, beeswax wraps, beads for necklaces and are making scarecrows for the Uraidla Show.

Senior class: Sallie

Our mosaic stepping stones are finished and ready for the Uraidla Show. We are looking forward to putting them in the vegetable garden. We have completed an assessment piece of narrative writing (after setting our individual writing goals) and I am pleased to say everyone made improvements!

For maths some students have been working on positive and negative integers and others have been working on LCM (lowest common multiple) and HCF (highest common factor) and factor trees. We have started our project on "Our Government"  which is creating a Powerpoint in pairs on different topics in this area.  We hope to give our oral presentations on these, before our visit from Rebekha Sharkie.

Congratulations to Jayda, Taylah and Lachlan who have been selected in the District tennis team and will be competing next week.

James was a member of the District cricket team and competed at various locations around Adelaide this week. The side won 2 matches and lost 2. By all accounts James had a great time.

Congratulations also to Tegan who played in the girls' District football team recently.

SAPSASA Tennis

On November 4th, Seb, Corey, Lachlan, William, Tegan, Miley, Jayda and I all went to the Littlehampton Anembo Park to play knockout tennis. The girls might be going to the other round but sadly the boys will not be going through. We all played Tatachilla, St Francis and Aldgate and they all put up a good fight. The girls' doubles partners were Tegan and Miley and Jayda and me and the boys' doubles were Seb and Corey and Lachlan and William. We played singles and double games. Thank you to Shane Irvine and Shelley Hunter for taking us all to knockout tennis on the day.

Science: Zac

Over the last fortnight in Science, the Reception/ Year 1 students have been looking at different materials and explored the meaning of the words 'Bend, Twist and Stretch'. Students were able to think of places where materials need to bend, twist or stretch to serve their purpose. The year 2-7 classes began using the Sphero Robots, looking at coding to create a sequence of instructions to complete a task.

P/E: Zac

In PE, the 4-7 students finished up their unit on Golf. Students became far more consistent in making contact with the ball and were more accurate with their shots.

The R-3 students continued to focus on fundamental skills, with several games and activities that involved throwing, catching, kicking and dribbling.

Indonesian: Ibu Susan

In Indonesian the older classes have been very busy performing their role-plays. All the students tried really hard to memorise their lines and they all spoke with lovely accents. The younger students have also been very busy using Apa kabar? (How are you?) in several activities including stories, songs and craft.
