Land the Trip - Lincoln University New Zealand

Three weeks before the Term 3 holidays I applied to go on a 5-day trip to New Zealand with Lincoln University, all expenses paid for. The application required a written response explaining why I would like to visit and ultimately study at the university.  Lincoln is situated 22km south west of Christchurch in the heart of the Canterbury region.

Part of our experience included touring around the district to visit different farms. One day we travelled 2 hours north of Christchurch to the high country where we visited “The Doone”, a 3500ha farm in the mountains.  It was wonderful to see and learn about a farming enterprise very different to what I am used to.

Lincoln University is very well known for global networking as there is a large portion of international students studying on the campus; Lincoln University has an excellent reputation worldwide. Everyone at the University is so happy and friendly; it would be great to study in that environment.

Lincoln is a land-based University, so they offer a large variety of courses. They have courses to suit anyone interested in these areas: Agriculture, Business, Architecture, Food/Agribusiness and Science (and everything in between).

I am interested in studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, which is 4-year degree and which opens up almost every career option in the agricultural industry.  You can shape the degree to subjects that you are interested in as well as doing new and different subjects that will broaden your knowledge. The degree will help open career options managing large scale farms to working as an agronomist, but you could also work as an agri-banker and many other jobs in the agribusiness sector also, including careers that haven’t even been invented yet.

Land the Trip was an amazing experience and I encourage all Year 11 and 12 students interested in agriculture to apply for the trip in the future. If anyone has any questions about Lincoln feel free ask me.
