Middle Years

Term Four has started well, and I have been pleased with the attitude and endeavour of our myPEC students. There is a real sense of purpose and learning in the focus. Students are behaving well and being respectful to one another. I often try to gauge the mood of the students in myPEC.

Mrs Simkin will run two study sessions for the Year 7 & 8 students in the lead up to the exams.

Year 7  - Wk 6 Monday 11th Nov.

Year 8  - Wk 7 Monday 18th Nov (after the camp).

In Wellbeing classes we talk about the need to build the ‘emotional bank balance of others’, and we need to be mindful of our positive interactions with others. I ask students to be aware of their interaction and we can refer to this as their ‘emotional deposits’. Mr Hawthorne discussed Active Constructive Responding (ACR) in this Year 8 Wellbeing classes this week.

Here are tips to build positive relationships:

  • Pay attention to others; listen.
  • Show understanding.
  • Take turns and include others.
  • Smile and say hello.
  • Be polite and considerate.
  • Compliment others and show gratitude.
  • Show appreciation.
  • Be generous.
  • Help others.
  • Hug your friends.
  • Bring positive energy to relationships.
  • Respond in kindness, and you will be repaid with kindness.
  • Remember, no putdowns or sarcasm. This erodes trust.

We held the second Parent Positive Education Breakfast last Monday and we had a productive discussion on how to develop a positive mindset. We discussed Fredrickson’s 10 positive emotions, and that positive emotions are fleeting and subtle. We stressed the importance of accepting all emotions: positive, neutral and negative.
