Christmas Cakes 2019

Last Friday saw the last Christmas Cakes for this year's massive cake fundraiser baked and wrapped. Thank you to all of you (and there were many), who generously gave up your valuable time to support this fabulous 30-plus year tradition. This year, we had a great number of new faces, both parents and friends of the College, which was wonderful and hopefully you all enjoyed helping so much you come and help again next year!

This was the first time we had used the school ovens for cake baking so thank you firstly to the school for allowing us to use this facility and secondly to the Head of Hospitality, Ms McGoon, and her students for their understanding and letting us take over for a week.

This really is a huge undertaking and there are a lot of thank yous we need to make:

• the simply fabulous Rosie Mercer, Jen Hutton and Anne Boland who gave up whole days to make sure that all the cakes came out of the ovens in perfect condition. This was no easy task but they handled it with aplomb.
• Vicki Whyte for the fantastic organisational efforts to make sure that everything ran smoothly.
• our wonderful secretary, Di Austin, who was on duty for the entire week.
• Nick Dopheide who provides us with constant support throughout the process. 
• Caroline Kissel for the extremely generous donation of amazing Kiss n Run eggs.
• the Rox for keeping up with all our coffee orders and keeping us all going!

I cannot express my pride in being part of such a great College community, the early morning wrappers, mid morning mixers, afternoon bakers and the late shift de-tinners, the smiles and laughs over giant bowls of cake mixture and whine of the kitchen mixers. So, come Christmas afternoon when you are biting into those delicious cakes with a cup of tea, remember the special ingredients - hairnets and laughter - and come and join us again next year. 

College Christmas Cakes make great eating and superb gifts and will be available to purchase at the afternoon tea after Speech Day this Friday, at both the Junior and Senior School, the Rox and Hamilton Hamper Co. Please support our school and indulge in lots of cake throughout the lead up to Christmas!

To all the Year 12s sitting exams in the next few weeks and embarking on the next stage of your lives, the Parents and Friends wish you every success and happiness for the future. You will be missed. To all the parents who will be saying their goodbyes to The Hamilton and Alexandra College, thank you for being part of the ever-changing fabric that makes up our community.
