Principal's Report

Teachers are a powerful lever for students learning but they must strive to make themselves redundant so that the students can eventually become their own teacher and regulate their own learning.  John Hattie 2019

There has been much debate about around how teachers and school leaders can best promote educational excellence since Professor John Hattie published his book Visible Learning in 2008. Hattie shared seven major ‘Visible Learning’ arguments that promised maximum impact on learning. I draw your attention to four.

First, teachers must work together with colleagues and their students to evaluate their impact. Second, all stakeholders especially students must develop high expectations.  Third, all stakeholders must be aware of explicit success criteria.  Finally, classrooms and staffrooms need to wholeheartedly embrace the notion that errors are opportunities to learn. 2019 will long be remembered as a cornerstone year as our Teaching and Learning Executive grapples with how we best proceed to accomplish such lofty goals and establish a clear learning direction.
