Year 8

Class 8.1

Let me throw some words at you:

Fun, frenetic, excited, passionate, authentic.

This is why I wanted to go back to being a homeroom teacher.

8.1 is a brilliant homeroom. Full of personality and vigour. We have sports stars and actors, debaters and social justice warriors. We have quiet people and not-so-quiet people. But almost to a man, we have people who are involved. The number of badges appearing on blazers in 8.1 could be melted down to make a Honda Jazz.

I’m trying to make my mark on the room. It’s already been blessed by an Archbishop, and covered in unicorns and cats by Ms Blake. I’m slowly filling it with Loot Crate merch and copies of my books. We’ve named the lockers Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard and Spock, with associated pictures and weekly trivia.

I have big plans for these guys – most Easter Eggs collected this term, most money raised for the Walkathon at the end of the year. I have even booked myself in for the Year 8 camp.

The best part is, I teach them for Humanities AND Digital Technologies AND Homeroom/PSE. We’ll bond, or else they’ll murder me on camp and hide my body in the bushes.

I’m hoping for bonding.
