Welcome to St James College Library for 2020.

Students are welcome in the library from 8am daily. Before school; Class time; Recess, Lunch and After school. During recess and lunch students can read, return, borrow, play chess, board and card games as well as catching up on schoolwork. They are also welcome to study after school on a Wednesday and Thursday till 4pm.

Books are on loan for 4 weeks and can be renewed unless in high demand. Year 7 – 7 books, Year 8 – 8 books, Year 9 – 9 books, Year 10 – 10 books. Students are responsible for their own loans and using the library link can renew, reserve and write an online review. Students can suggest new titles and then be the first to borrow. During the year a range of activities is organised, and we celebrate literary and other special events.

It is a privilege to be part of your son’s learning journey and to encourage an appreciation of the values and enjoyment of reading and introduce students to a variety of authors and genres.

Year 7 English classes and Year 8.4 English have a Library English lesson once per fortnight to focus on Reading with Mrs Viner, Teacher librarian and their English teacher. During February students have been introduced to the library catalogue and some have written an online book review. This reliable and quality resource contains a range of information types including video, photographs, maps and written information that is useful for research assignments and general interest. Students are encouraged to cite their resources using a Bibliography.

Library Monitors - applicants for Year 7 and 10 are being finalised this month. Students will receive a badge at Assembly once all positions have been filled.
