Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Week 4 Update

It is hard to believe that we have already hit the halfway mark for sport in Term 4 and with that, the halfway point of the term itself. It has been great to see all the teams playing and representing the College. There have been some very strong performances so far this term across all the codes. This has resulted in some very favourable scores and some close, hard-fought victories. All boys and coaches should be commended for their focus and determination so far this term.

As there are only three weeks of competition left, now would be a good time for boys to get together and decide on however best to show their gratitude for their coach’s commitment to the team. While it’s great to get memorabilia, many coaches have been doing this for a long time, so the ‘poolroom’ is full. If in doubt, a gift card is always warmly received by coaches.

Shortly, if you haven’t already, all families in Year 6 will receive the Co-curricular Form for the Senior School. This will come through electronically in your email, so please look out for it. Please note   that for summer, sports such as Basketball and Baseball are not listed/available on the form. This is due to the 2023 Summer season having already commenced at this time. Boys will be able to trial for these sports in Term 3 2023 in preparation for the 2024 Summer season. Cricket is available to the boys in Term 1 of Year 7, and I would encourage as many boys as possible to get involved. The competition is largely in-house, with the boys playing in their colour houses. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Alternatively, the boys can see Mr Fochesato in his office in the Hickey building.

Over the past week, we have had two boys in the Junior School excel in activities outside the College. Many readers would be familiar with Dante Barbanera’s achievements in Jiu Jitsu throughout the course of the year. Over the weekend, Dante competed in the Pan Pacific Jiu-Jitsu 2022 IBJJF Championship in Melbourne where he won gold. Dante flies off to Abu Dhabi in two weeks’ time to compete in the World Championships. We wish him all the best on this exciting journey. Also, in the realm of martial arts we have Noah Murphy who was awarded his First Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo. An outstanding effort for one so young and a testament to his dedication and ability to balance schoolwork, co-curricular activities, and his passion for Taekwondo. Congratulations Noah on an amazing achievement.

With three rounds left of the sporting year, may the sun keep shining to give all our boys the best opportunity to complete the season with a strong set of performances.
