From the Principal

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back from what we hope was a holiday to recharge after our busy term.

Daylight savings has started and I’m sure we’re all looking forward to some warmer weather as spring gets underway.

SUNSMART REMINDER

All students should be wearing an appropriate hat at all times when outside.  Students without a hat will be instructed to play in the allocated shaded areas.

Choose one of the following styles:

  • broad brimmed hats – with a brim of at least 7.5 cm
  • bucket or ‘surfie-style hats' – with a deep crown and brim of at least 6 cm
  • legionnaire hats with a flap that covers the neck. The side flap and front peak should meet to protect the side of the face.

Appropriate hats are available through PSW located on North Road Ormond.

SCHOOL JACKETS

As part of our Covid Operations Guide, we will be utilising outdoor spaces for learning and eating in Term 4.

Please make sure that your child is ready for all possible weather conditions.

Hats are required as per our SunSmart regulations, however, I do recommend layers and jackets as the cooler weather has been sporadic. All schools will be required to ensure maximum ventilation via open windows and doors, which may also mean some students require more uniform layers and jackets.

2023 PREP TRANSITION

Letters have already been sent to parents of our 2023 prep students advising them of the dates for transition.

The first transition session will be held on Friday 21 October

If you haven’t yet enrolled your child, please phone the office 9568 1300 to make arrangements as soon as possible

CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR 2023

Determining class lists for the following year is quite a lengthy and considered process. On occasion, parents have particular requests when considering the most suitable class for their child. For example, social and emotional issues and friendship groups.

We are NOT able to take requests for particular teachers, as staffing for the following year is not finalised until much later.

Parents must make their request in writing and email it to the school at: Murrumbeena.ps@education.vic.gov.au

no later than Friday 11 November.

Parents often mistakenly assume that because they have emailed the school in the past about their child’s placement in a class, that the school will consider that same request again. This is NOT the case.

Students mature and change and so previous requests become null and void. Parents must consider their child’s needs on an annual basis and if a specific request is still requiring consideration, then parents must notify the school in writing. Our Class Placement Policy can be found on the school’s website.

CONFIRMATION OF STUDENTS FOR 2023 - THIS IS VITAL

It is crucial to our planning to have accurate numbers of students at each year level. This determines our ability to staff the school and plan for the required number of classes.

If you have plans to relocate to another area and/ or enrol your child in another school, please advise the school as a matter of courtesy, as soon as your decision is known (again, it helps with managing staffing and resources).

CURRICULUM AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DAYS

We want to ensure families have plenty of time to make arrangements for the upcoming pupil free days occurring this term on Monday 31 October and Friday 11 November

While teachers will be working, students do not attend school on these days.

The teachers will be working together to moderate judgements against the achievement standards in readiness for end of year reporting.

When determining the achievement standard, teachers use a range of information sets, including, but not limited to: participation in lessons, submitted student work and analysis of a range of assessments.

TERM 4 FRIDGE CALENDAR

We aim to finalise dates for our extra curricular events and school activities this week. We hope to send home a paper copy of the Term 4 calendar early next week so you can pop it on your fridge for quick reference.
