Inside the Classroom

Primary

Primary students have completed 10 days of Swim School. There has been so much progress made by all those who participated. A huge thank you to all the staff who have supported this valuable program.

Classes 6 and 13 enjoy spending time participating in sensory activities such as shaving cream and kinetic sand whilst completing other class activities and working together.

Classes 10, 12 and 13 have been enjoying time in the Engine Room, accessing the gym and utilising technology within their classroom. All students are working hard in their classrooms.

Stage 4

Class 14 made a delicious shepherd’s pie last week. Ethan entertained the class by taking on a celebrity chef role and presented a cooking show for us all. We also visited the retreat and Skills House, where some students learned to sort clothes for washing, completed filing, hole punching and bed making while others were treated to a hair wash and style by Miss Krissie.

Classes 15 & 16 have continued their unit in Geography on ‘Landscapes and Landforms’ exploring the natural features of places in Australia. Students completed some excellent brainstorming on ‘The Great Barrier Reef’ and demonstrated excellent listening skills while watching short videos. Here is a snapshot of some of their work.

Class 15 is a busy class. We are very curious and like to test what we are learning in our information texts. This experiment was to find out how frozen wood frogs make antifreeze to protect their vital organs during winter in Alaska. Students have tested out the bike track and enjoyed tasting cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden.

Stage 5

As part of the stage 5 History unit, ‘Investigating the Past’, classes have been visiting places of local historical interest. Last week class 22 toured Duntry League, the original homestead of James Dalton Snr. This week classes 9 and 22 tried gold panning at Ophir Reserve.

Class 9 have been exploring forces as part of the Science curriculum. They explored forces and inertia with a game of Jenga. Looks like fun!

On Monday stage 5 students participated in a Mental Fitness presentation with Australian Volleyballer, Stefanie Weiler. They discussed the importance of mental fitness and practical ways to build their mental strength, flexibility and endurance. Our students proved to be experts in their knowledge of gratitude, mindfulness and character strengths.

Stage 6

Students in classes with Mrs Vanstone and Mrs Marsden have been learning about financial maths and practicing their skills on calculating totals and giving the correct change.

Selected year 11 and 12 students attended training with RYDA on Wednesday at Towac Park for learner driver road safety education training.  Students were wonderful representatives of our school, following directions, engaging in activities and working well with students from other local schools. Thank you to local Rotary groups who conducted this training.

Campus

Learning has been a huge focus on the Campus. All classes have been busy doing assessments that will drive their future learning. Class 19  have been focusing on history from the local area, visiting a number of historical sites during their weekly outings. They have also created a great piece of art as part of their novel study, The lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Class 17 are working hard on angles in mathematics. Class 21 has been enjoying the science of forces and the magic of maths.

We are putting in an autumn vegetable garden to use in our weekly cooking. This week we have planted snow peas, leeks, spinach and strawberries. Stay tuned for updates.

Cooking remains a favourite activity on Campus – with chicken schnitzel and spaghetti bolognese on the menu in the last few weeks. Thank you to Mrs Huggett who is helping us remember the rules of the Campus kitchen  with her artistic flair.

Sport and PCYC Fit for Life give Campus students the opportunity to do some fun exercises and practice teamwork and respectful communication.

We are very proud of our efforts at the swimming carnival, bringing home 3 medals and a whole lot of memories of a fun day together.
