Big Vegie Crunch

What is The Big Vegie Crunch?

The Big Vegie Crunch is a fun health promotion event to help our community UP THE VEG. Our school will be taking part in The Big Vegie Crunch (part of Vegetable Week) at 10am on Thursday 30 March

Primary schools across NSW will be joining together to break the record for the most students crunching vegetables:

  • 50,260 students crunching simultaneously (2018 record)
  • 14,991 students crunching at other times over Vegetable Week (2019 record)

What can you do to help?

  • Pack a container of vegetables (not fruit this time) for your child to eat on Thursday 30 March
  • Remember to keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your children’s lunchboxes. Check out the UP THE VEG at Home resource for ideas

If you require more information on what activities our school is doing over Vegetable Week, please contact the school or your child’s teacher.

School Vaccinations

Information about school vaccinations will be going home with Year 7 and Year 10 students this week. There is a change to providing consent for vaccinations this year as NSW Health move to an online platform. Paper copies of the consent cards will still be available for families who do not have access to the internet.

Dates that vaccinations will occur on will be added to the school calendar once confirmed.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point-in-time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. All schools in NSW will sit NAPLAN online in 2023 (except Year 3 writing).

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN between 15 and 24 March 2023. In preparation for NAPLAN, our school will be participating in practice tests. These give students an opportunity to become familiar with the test format, functions and tools of the online tests.

Excessive preparation for NAPLAN is not recommended. Students do not need to be able to touch-type to complete NAPLAN as the tests are not about keyboard skills.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact our NAPLAN coordinator Kari Priest  by email at ansonst-s.school@det.nsw.edu.au
