From the Principal

Hello everyone

Welcome to Autumn - cooler days and nights and a spectacular change to our beautiful trees is something to look forward to in Orange.

Exciting news over the past 3 weeks:

  • congratulations to Ms Emma-Jane Snowden who joins our staff as a permanent School Learning Support Officer (Health)
  • Mrs Sutherland welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Dante - congratulations to Mrs Sutherland and her husband.
  • successful swimming carnival held - first in 3 years. Thanks to our amazing Sport Coordinator Mrs Said.

We are looking forward to the next few weeks with ....

  • our new Variety ROSA bus arriving next Thursday
  • Mini-Woolies opening on the 14th March at our school
  • the Multi-Purpose Centre opening for us to use as an assembly area, teaching space and OOSH hub.
  • the library moving to its new home in the Trade Training Centre overlooking the vineyard
  • new Rose vintage being bottled from grapes picked last year.

As we have now passed the halfway mark of the term, it is a good time to mention a few things that are important at school.

Medications: We have recently reviewed our administration of medication practices at school and I would like to encourage all families to send medication in blister packs. Currently, we have medication coming into school in all shapes and sizes and with the introduction of the new Department of Education’s Restrictive Practices policy, it is important that we have the name of the medication, dose and doctor clearly displayed on the medication.

Blister packs are freely available from the pharmacy that would usually dispense your medication and many pharmacies deliver directly to our school, saving you valuable time signing the medication into the office. If you have any questions about blister packs, please call the office and ask to speak to me. Medications can not be sent in with students or the ATSO as parents/carers are required to sign in the medication at the office unless it is received by the chemist.

Uniform: It is great to see so many students in full school uniform. A reminder that we have school caps and bucket hats free to give to students to wear at school and encourage parents/carers to ask their child to leave other types of hats and caps for after school and weekend wear. The uniform consists of grey pants/shorts for boys and navy pants, shorts or skorts for girls with a navy polo for both. The sports uniform of a light blue polo is to be worn on Wednesdays. Shoes with steel caps can not be worn at school. Need help with uniform? Please call the office.

Items not allowed at school: Please do not send or bring fast food (McDonald's, KFC etc), sports drinks, high-energy drinks, soft drinks or coffee to school. Vapes, lighters, cigarettes, spray deodorants and matches are also banned from school.

Drop off and pick up: School hours are 9:00am – 3:00pm. Students can be supervised in the cola area on the main site between 8:30am and 8:45am before they head to class. After school, back and front transport will close at 3:10pm as staff often attend meetings from 3:15pm. Students who are not picked up by this time will be available to collect from the cola.

Attendance: Our current whole school attendance is 86.4% with 56.5% of students attending more than 90% of the time - well done everyone. The Department of Education expects all students to attend school more than 90% of the time. Absence reasons can now be submitted through the Sentral Parent Portal so please ensure that you provide a reason for your child or ward’s absence as soon as they are away.

Notes: most of our excursion and activity notes will now be published through the Sentral Parent Portal and you will be able to quickly respond to the questions about whether your child/ward will attend on the app. This will save printing and your time in returning the notes. If you are not linked to the Sentral Parent Portal, please call the office and ask for Mrs Riley who will be able to assist you.

Enjoy reading this edition of the newsletter and the weekend ahead.
