Primary School

From the Head of Primary

This week started with our Year Six House Leaders being inducted into their new roles and our Year Ones welcomed to the School by the giving of the school badge from our Year Twelves. Thank you to the families and friends who supported this special occasion and to Mrs Fiona Gouldthorp alongside our Year Twelves who capably prepared our Year Ones. Photos from the Ceremony will be distributed to families individually.

Our Year Six House Leaders have an important role in our pastoral care programme and sporting events. I warmly welcome and introduce our 2023 Leaders:

Baudin: Digby Skinner and Jessie Rotoff (Lilly McGill Term Four)

Camfield: Denby Sharpe and Lani Marsh

Mokare: Alex Wright and Harriet Hyder

Wilson: Owen Pretorius and Macy Emberson

Our newly inducted leaders did an incredible job of running our welcome assembly on Friday afternoon in which we introduced our hardworking members of staff. It was lovely to hear the hobbies, interests, and strengths (and occasionally habits) of our teachers and EAs. We are truly blessed with our array of teachers and education assistants who, each day, go above and beyond for our students. The assembly also introduced our Friday afternoon pastoral rotations alongside our whole-school wellbeing programme centred around our school values. Our morning briefings will be based on the themes of our school values: respect, integrity, compassion and commitment.

Respect

During our welcome assembly, Mrs Donna Diletti reminded us of four ways we can show respect each day and Alex Wright (Year Six) assisted me in acting these out. We can show respect by:

  • Holding the door for the person behind us.
  • Holding the door open and stepping to the side for teachers and parents.
  • Saying thank you and greeting others with eye contact as you pass by, including checking how they are, too.
  • Wearing our uniform with pride (the correct uniform in a tidy manner, no nail polish, simple jewellery and neat hair).

This week we have a whole-school focus on the value compassion. Our leaders unpacked the qualities of compassion, and our teachers are on the lookout for students showing this value who can be rewarded at our briefing next week. Remember: compassion means we care about others, treat them with kindness, and feel a strong desire to help people in need. Compassion is empathy in action.

Our Grammar Playgroup began this week and was well attended by members of the GSG community and beyond. Mrs Kym Clifford has planned for an exciting term of activities, and we look forward to watching this initiative grow.  For more information please contact our Community Relations Manager, Mrs Julia Bairstow via julia.bairstow@gsg.wa.edu.au

Our teachers and students have made a wonderful start to the year with all classes jumping right into their exciting programmes of work; there is a lot to look forward to in the weeks to come.
