Cocurricular Update

On Wednesday our Year Nine cohort had their Camp briefing in preparation for their Margaret River Adventure in Week Four. We are thrilled to be able to plan and deliver a COVID-uninterrupted camp experience for our students. Year Nines were briefed about the camp schedule (including abseiling, caving and high-ropes courses), their sleeping arrangements and the philosophy of challenge by choice. Our staff look forward to sharing this experience with our students and I look forward to seeing the growth that will occur from these experiences.

Our Year Ten families will receive correspondence on Friday regarding their selections of either a voyage on board the Leeuwin or an expedition on the Blackwood River by raft. For families who have selected the Leeuwin voyage, there will be a link to a medical information sheet that must be completed to confirm your place on board the ship. These are both exciting expeditions and I look forward to discussing these more with the Year Tens in the coming weeks.

While some parts of the school are busy preparing themselves for camps and voyages many students are settling into the academic routines of a new year. At Great Southern Grammar there is a significant amount of Academic Support in place to help students thrive; the academic support schedule is being finalised and will be published on myGSG shortly.

Finally, I encourage all students (with the support of parents/guardians) to view the Daily Notices that are published to student email addresses at 6.00pm each day. These notices contain important information about the day ahead as well as numerous cocurricular opportunities for our students, for example, today’s Notices included information about Griffins Soccer, Country Week, Tennis Coaching as well as Film & Media Club. I encourage all students to try out a new activity or area of interest and see where it takes them.

Secondary Assistance Scheme - applications close 6 April 2023

The State Government through the Western Australian Department of Education provides an allowance to assist eligible families with secondary schooling costs.

Parents/guardians must apply for the Secondary Assistance Scheme (SAS) each school year (annually) – applications do not carry forward to future years.

To be eligible for the allowance the parent/guardian must hold a Services Australia (Centrelink) or Veterans’ Affairs card that represents a statement of income for the family.

Hard copies of the forms are available at Reception.
